I ate a solid too early...need ideas to be prepared. Please help...

Recommended Posts

So, I am 10 days out. Other than having no energy and hating the taste of Protein Shakes, I guess it's been okay. I am not used to it yet.

I am on full liquids, and I hate it. Not so much, "I want fried chicken" but more "I hate soup/protein shakes/anything liquid".

I ate a slice of turkey bacon...slowly. I KNOW it's way too early, but I just wanted some meat.

I have unflavored Protein powder, every cream and broth based Soup in a 5 mile radius, milk, Protein shakes, greek yogurt in every flavor. I am so confused about what to eat. I don't like cottage cheese or things like that. I have sugar free popsicles for the crunch but the artificial sweetener makes my stomach upset and gassy.

I brought this up during my one week post op, but the clinician seemed disinterested, maybe she was having a bad day. She only suggested different flavors of greek yogurt (sigh...).

I don't want to fail this early on, and I kind of want to get a handle on it before the next stage...purees. Because, to be frank, the thought of eating blended meat makes me nauseous and I don't know how anyone does it. I also don't like eggs or mayo or mustard, so I have never had an egg salad or tuna salad or anything.

I guess I could live off of liquid Protein supplements and Clear Liquids until the solid food stage, but I really don't want to.

I just don't know what to do, so if anyone has any advice or encouragement, it would be greatly appreciated.

Love.

I don't know if you like cheese but I have found nibbling on a light cheese stick to be a nice way to mix things up! Just chew it really well and it turns to mush... Also a great source of protein!

Did you surgeon give you a meal plan? Follow it to the letter. It is there to protect your healing stomach!

Farina, refried Beans, sugar free pudding, mashed potatoes, chili in the blender......there are lots of options for the pureed stage.

Honestly you just gotta stick it out for your own good and your own health. It's not fun, no. It gets old and repetitive, yes. But you can do it! It's only a few weeks!!! Hang in there.

I had a awful time with Protein shakes until I tried Isopure chocolate. I would mix it with milk and it tastes just like chocolate milk. Also, try some hummus, refried Beans, and cheese.

I didn't get a meal plan per se. It says cream Soups (which I have), cream of wheat (which I don't eat) and of course the popsicles and greek yogurt.

I made the post because I don't know what to eat. I guess I didn't know it was supposed to be like this. I will try cheese and refried Beans (I don't know what they are but that's what google is for). And I guess eat Soup and yogurt until I figure something out.

tuna is really good with a bit of olive oil and a splash of vinegar if you don't like mayo.< /p>

I am 15 days post-op and I didn't puree anything to be honest. I was discharged from he hospital on full liquids plus yogurt. The first couple of daysI was home the Protein Shakes and yougurts were too thick adn I couldn't handle them. I had to Water them down. Now that I can have soft foods I eat egg whites, hummus, pink salmon and tuna that come sealed in individual pouches, cottage cheese, laughing cow cheese slices, oatmeal, cream of wheat etc. You can certainly mix it up so you aren't totally misreable as long as you adhere to the easier food on your tummy. Better to be safe than sorry!!!!!!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
