Anyone do a hydrotherap colonic before?

Recommended Posts

It's curious if anyone did a colonic before surgery? I want to ask my dr. but sometimes eastern medicine frowns upon western medicine.

I have a basic theory - I don't do anything wild or different before major procedures.

When I was gearing up for plastics (much bigger surgery than WLS) my doctor wanted to put me on all these herbal remedies to "help". my surgeon vetoed them all - not because they are bad but because herbal remedies can vary batch to batch and because some of them have "unstudied" consequences. He felt, and I agree, it wasn't worth the risk of the unknown.

I dont know a thing about colonics but I am not clear onhow it would help...

It's a form of a colon cleanse but with instant results and improvement of the digestion track.

A colonic is basically where a small hose is inserted in your anus and your colon is gently flushed with warm Water. Then the same Water and the waste products in your colon come back out through the clear hose. I had one once because a co-worker highly recommended them. Although it wasn't particularly physically uncomfortable, it was very weird lying there with a hose up your butt and the therapist commenting on the stuff flowing through the clear hose. I wouldn't do it again.

I was thinking about doing one - one week before my gastric sleeve......

Do you all think one week out is ok?

I don't understand the benefits pre surgery. I do not like to do major new things right before major surgery. ..but that's just me

I think you really don't want to mess with your GI or the bacterial balance prior to surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
