Self Sabotage...WTH?

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I was 1 lb. from my goal...guess what I did? Went to DQ and had a medium turtle blizzard with extra pecans and chocolate...chunky style. LOL My daughter made a great grade on a test and I hadn't rewarded her with treats in a very long time and we went for it! Welp, I guess I've officially put off my goal day for a few more days. Drats! What was I thinking? They DO sell smoothies afterall!

Well, yesterday is over... You did that.... You ate that..... But the day is over. One day, one dessert, one bad choice...... But, it's over!!!! Today is a whole new day. You are still on your way to that goal and then to MAINTENANCE !!!!!!

I do this to myself as well- as Scarlett O'Hara says, "after all, tomorrow is another day!" I am so used to using food for rewards, comfort, to alleviate boredom or loneliness- it's a hard habit to break (cue the Chicago song).

You're practically to maintenance- and I believe that with maintenance will come selected "treats." Just eat right and exercise today!

Don't beat yourself up -- a relaxed, easy relationship with food is the real goal, being at peace with eating and embracing a healthy lifestyle. You are doing beautifully! There is no being on or off a diet anymore. There is only being present in your body and noticing what is going on. You're doing that! I'd say that is a resounding success.

Come on now girl was that DQ 3200 calories? I can't imagine you gained any weight! Enjoy the good grade, don't spoil it for yourself or your daughter. Though next time, (and I hope there are many more next times!!) maybe something other then a food reward, simply because it's a path that's not good for her or you anymore.

For me it has been hard to break that habit of using food as a reward or comfort, I wish it had never started to begin with...but I grew up in a big Italian family all they did was feed you for everything, and when I was a kid I was skinny skinny so they tried to feed me extra!

GOAL GOAL GOAL chanting for you and the USA Hockey team today!!!

I've done that many times before in the past. Why? Why do we do that? It's like running the entire marathon and giving up 5 feet before the finish line. What is it in us that makes us self sabatoge?

I really don't consider that "self sabotage". Give yourself a break.

You've already reached goal. The number on the scale is truly of no importance. And CG is right..you had a nice time with your daughter...no harm in that.

You've done so well. Tomorrow is another day. Did you enjoy it? Good. It isn't the best choice but we've all done it at one time or another. I don't see it as a big deal. It's a far cry from what we could put away before.

This is a lifestyle!!!! I know plenty of thin-fit people who eat ice cream, along with other things dieters cringe at.....I have sundaes all the time, just not every day, or numerous times a day...had a large cherry vanilla with crushed nuts, coconut, and whipped cream last night....

I wasn't struck by lightning or the earth didn't swallow me up....

Once my body reached It's goal, I have not lost or gained any additional weight for 2 years now....other than the up and down variations within the same 5 lbs.....and I am no longer bound by all those dieter's rules...just the rules needed to live with the band.

But then...this is just about me and my life, not everyone elses....people have different needs..

B-52, did you get an adjustment once you reached your goal? I'm wondering what to do and I'm getting conflicting advice - some say leave it alone, you'll bottom out... others say get a tiny unfill (.25). What did you do?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
