Hello everyone, new here, from Uk

Recommended Posts

Hello , I'm from the Uk (north).

I am currently waiting to see a surgeon on the NHS.

I have a BMI of 40 and borderline diabetic and pco's.

Anyone who would like to chat or with any advice, stories, particularly progress stories to keep my spirits up would be appreciated.

Any ideas about how long waiting lists are for NHS?

Hello this is refreshing, i have felt alone for the past 14 months so feel like i need to share my experiences !! In the first year I bearly lost a stone in weight following surgery, Bearing in mind I was drinking alcohol which doesnt help, however having stopped drinking alcohol for past 4 months things have changed and I have now lost a stone; I guess the message I would like to give is that gastric banding is a vehicle for loosing weight not a solution!! You need to be able to change your whole philosophy in terms of eating, lifestyle etc, the band helps so much and for some people is perfect but I am not perfect and have learnt that lifestyle changes are so much easier to make with the band and that is what it is all about:clap2: .

Welcome!

You will find lot's of good information here -- you can start by looking at those having their surgery scheduled in April the link is: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/april-2007-head-t29472.html

Then once you have a date - I am sure there will be a group open up for that month as well.

Good Luck!

Thank you Gina , very helpful.

I will have a look round,

Kindregards H x

Waiting lists are not the problem with the NHS you have to see your surgeon and then if he thinks you're eligible he will ask your GP to apply for funding, then if they agree, you get to join the list... depending where you are you could be through the whole process and on the table in 6 months or you may have to follow a supervised diet plan and try drugs and that may take about 2 years.... There's no way of knowing about your particular surgeon/PCT so you will have to ask when you get your appointment.

Thanks for that info.

I wasn't aware of the process.

Well I will keep my fingers crossed.

I am so sick and tired of diet pills, I was on the last lot for 13 months and they kept me awake and made me short tempered. The ones before that made me get stomach cramps. And the ones before those was pure amphetamine and I believe are now banned.

So I hope they think I have had my share of diet pills.< /p>

After yoyo dieting for more than 10 years, With a Bmi of 40 also I have Polycistic Ovarys and I am borderline diabetic with type 1 in my family, they will hopefully see I could benefit from surgery.

Nice to meet you, H x

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
