My journey began in 2008. Through Kaiser Permanente I attended weekly classes for about 6 months after I got approved for weight loss surgery. Classes ended September 2008 and the entire time I thought I was going to get the Lap Band done. I met with my surgeon, Dr Zane in Harbor City, California in October and he told me that he would not do the Lap Band on me because he was beginning to reverse them. He gave me really bad reviews so since I was not morbidly obese (needed to lose 100 lbs), he recommended the Gastric Sleeve so that’s what I went with (I don’t regret it BTW). We set the date, February 6, 2009.

Surgery day I weighed 242 lbs. I was in the hospital for 2 days. Because I had been educated for 6 months on how important it was to follow in the advice, thankfully I had no complications. I lost 19 lbs between February 6 and February 24!!!! By my second post op appointment in May, I had lost 40 lbs.

About 6 weeks after surgery I began to go to the gym on a regular basis. I did cardio and zumba classes 4 times a week.

In May I began to feel pain after I ate. For about a year and a half, I thought it was regular pain and I dealt with it. Until one day, I couldn’t take anymore…I was rushed in to the hospital….GALL STONES. Because of the rapid weight loss, I developed gall stones. I had surgery to remove my gall bladder/stones in October 2010. I weighed 146 lbs!!!

For the next few years my weighed fluctuated from 145-150 lbs.

Then I noticed I began to gain weight around June 2012. From there on I’ve gained about 15-20 lbs.

For the last 6-8 months I’ve watched my food intake because I did noticed I was able to eat more.

The last two months, I’ve added exercise to my regimen again. I still can’t lose weight.

I’m here to seek support and to avoid from going back to the bad eating habits. HELP!!!!

Hi there!

Congrats on your weight loss :)

I've heard of people that start again like it was day one with the liquid diet for a few days or a week. It boosts your weight loss I guess. Maybe that would work!

Good luck.

Thanks!!! Do you know if they stick to drinking only a certain amount of ounces? I ask because when I first got it done, I can only drink 2 ounces every 30 minutes. :)

I haven't been where you are so I feel weird giving advice. But I will say I have never seen someone come on here and say:

I stay under (800/1000/1100/some definite number) of calories each day. I stay under (40/60/80 some definite number of carbs each day). I get at least (60/75/90/some definite number) of grams of Protein each day. I log everything I eat faithfully in MyFitnessPal. But I am gaining weight (or can't seem to lose weight).

So for me, the lesson is pretty much that if I want to get to goal and maintain at that goal, one of the most important things is to have a definite plan and to make sure I follow that plan by logging everything I eat.

I've also seen a lot of the veterans talking about the 5/2 eating plan and that is something I am open to trying out when I get closer to goal. There are some threads in the Veterans' Forum about that and you may want to check those out.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
