I am having sleeve surgery next Monday, Feb 24. My surgeons office has a small "store" where patients can purchase Proteins, Vitamins etc. At my pre-op appointment they had various samples of pre made Protein Shakes, Protein Shots, vitamins etc. I found most of the pre made shakes were extremely sweet. I did like the Liquid Protein shots. The also have unflavored Protein isolates that can be mixed with Water, tea, added to various liquids. That seems to be more of a fit for me. Any input on different brands, prices etc. would be greatly appreciated.

P.s. I have found this site to be very helpful.

Thanks

For something made with milk, I like Unjury chocolate Splendor.

For something made with Water or Crystal Lite, I like the Syntrax Nectars.< /p>

So I can't handle artificial sweeteners and I must say if this is even a concern of yours I can say I love Tera's whey in dark chocolate with unsweetened almond chocolate milk. It has 20grms for 8 ounces. I compared that to the 25 grams for 12 ounces of another Protein Powder. It has also been the gentlest on my stomach. Other powders make me feel uncomfy bc they were so thick. I may only be one week out but I don't know how I would have survived without finding Tera's. I will say though it is über expensive at $22-28 for 12 servings, but all things considered I don't mind not paying the extra money. I will say I did not like any of the other flavored But they do sell samples on their website. Also, abouttime sells samples on their website as well. My advice is try to find a sample of the product before plunking down the cash. ( I have at least four tubs I will not drink- learn from my mistakes) everyone's taste buds are diff and what I love u may think is nasty.

The sweet stuff can really become a drag. I like unjury chicken broth flavor. Mix it with warm Water. When you mix with warm fluids, remember to keep it under 140 degrees or it will clump and get nasty.

Also, early on, Protein isolates are usually preferred by doctors because it is much more available to your body, which you need right after surgery.

I just found Now Foods brand Whey Protein Isolate unflavored. 5 lb tub for $69.50 on eBay and Amazon. My Dr. Office store charges $29 for 1.2 lb unflavored. I understand the Dr. wants to make money on the products, but come on.... their stuff is expensive.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
