Drinking/Gulping Water Fast?

Recommended Posts

I have been reading some posts on here about some problems gulping Water. I have no problem gulping water down fast - AT ALL. Does this mean I am not in the green zone yet?

I just chugged down a 32 ounce bottle of Water with a splash of cranberry -- and it was cold, too (just finished exercising). My band is tighter in the morning but I can still do this. I'm curious about people's responses here -- whether this is an indication of not being in the Green Zone (which I know I'm not yet -- was supposed to go for a fill this week but postponed due to snow).

I've pretty much been in and around the green zone for over 1 1/2 years and I've always been able to gulp Water. I've had a few episodes where it didn't go down quite as fast as I'd like so I've trained myself to take smaller gulps and pay close attention to feeling the flow as it passes from my pouch to my stomach.

I think I've been kind of teetering on the edge of the green zone for a couple of months now, and I have had absolutely no trouble with Water. I've always been able to take as big of drinks as I want or as much as I want in one sitting with no probs.

I have trouble not gulping water! Sometimes I want to just down the whole bottle, but the nurse told me to only take small sips, which is very hard for me. The only time I've had a problem is when I've had a drink too soon after eating. A couple times it got stuck.

Hi Cat225! I was banded at the same clinic in September. They never said to take small sips (only during the few days post-op). No rules for drinking Water slowly that I am aware of. I am going to ask them at the next visit to make sure I am not doing anything wrong. I gulp Water all the time :o .

Hmmm, maybe I am mistaken? I just remember being told to go slow and small with everything. Maybe they didn't mean Water, too? It's hard to quench your thirst with small sips!

Jennybean, quick question for you! When did you get your first fill? How long did they make you wait? I am 3 weeks in, and think I'm ready already!

They will only do fills once every 4 weeks (NO SOONER...or so I am told. I have not tried to persuade too much) At this point of my schedule they normally go 6 weeks, but since I had bad swelling from surgery they are going extremely slow with me and allow me to come in at the 4 week mark still.

They say sometimes it takes 2 weeks or more to feel the full effect of the fill.

(My first fill was at the 4 week mark and I had to call them to schedule)

Yeah, I was there last week, and Debbie told me to wait until I'm 6 weeks out. I obviously feel some difference, because I am getting satisfied with much less food, but it's not as little as it should be. She said they will give me a fill when I am no longer satisfied with my portions and my weight loss stops. I lost 3 pounds this week, so I guess I'll have to wait.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
