April 2014 pre-op group

Recommended Posts

Day 4 post-op. Hopefully going home today. I can not believe how thirsty I am. Still have my drain bubble but think it will be removed before I go.

Everything else removed already removed. I am so excited to see the physical changes reflect the changes I have already made.

I can't wait for my own bed. Soon very soon!

Good luck may's group

Oh wow!!! No...I am new to the forum so I didn't know her!! That's terrible!!!! My prayers go out to her family:'(

I had my gallbladder removed a little over a year ago so I know what kind of GI complications can arise from that, and having this surgery done on top of that, I can only imagine:(

I am not sure if any of you are aware but one of our April surgeries passed away. Let's keep claw0416's family in our thoughts and prayers.

I just read this - so sad. Absolutely sending healing to the family.

As many times as I find out how much it hurts to take too big of a drink, I still do it sometimes:/ I don't know why. As soon as it hurts I tell my self "oh yeah" ugh!

Im increasing the drink intake now but its still hard. Goal today is to get in at least 40 oz of liquid plus at least 40 oz of Protein Shake. Wish me luck its going to be a full time job today.

I'm 10 days post op just tried Greek yogurt for the first time it made me stomach grumble. But today I got on the scale and I'm .4 lbs heavier.... What's going on with me?!! I've lost 28.5 lbs so far. I'm in such a down mood today I was so hoping to be closer to 30lbs today.

My surgeon just talked to me about this. He said it had to do with dehydration, losing a lot of Water weight and getting hydrated again. He told me to expect a stall and possible weight gain.

Don't panic! I'm 3.5 weeks post op, I lost 12 lbs the first week and have only lost 3 since. My nutritionist said it's completely normal-we will lose weight in steps!

My starting weight was 262 and I weighed myself today at 243.4 and I am 8 days post op....I am terrified to start eating food again. I have this fear that I won't continue losing weight:( that I would gain everything back. I have a meeting with my surgeon on the 6th so he can assess my healing and clear me for puréed foods. As much as I would love to have solid foods, I'm scared. I guess I will discuss these concerns with him. I just have this horrible feeling that my surgery won't work and I will never get to my goal. I can't even picture myself at a healthy weight.

I am so sad! Greeneyed Girl inboxed me and told me. Our surgery was the same day and we both had our gall bladders removed as well. My doctor told me that my gall bladder was bad and was well under my liver and full of rocks, however, I am still here by the grace of God. My prayers to her family. This is a very serious procedure! I am so sad.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
