April 2014 pre-op group

Recommended Posts

My surgery is April 28th at 10:30 am. I thought the day would never come! I'm having my procedure at University of Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. It was great to meet the others who are also having their procedures on the 28th at the pre-op appointment - - some of which was done as a group and some privately. Anyway, It did give us a chance to bond!

Welcome aboard. I to will be having surgery on the 28th in GA. So excited yet nerves are a mess. I have rearranged my whole house today. My prayers are for a safe and speedy surgery and recovery for us all!

That's nice that you were able to meet people starting this journey the same time. I would have liked that.

When I woke up I said, "the surgery was a fluke. I'm hungry!" They had to explain to me that it was head hunger. It's the worse. I just sip my drink.

And it doesn't help when I keep seeing all these food commercials lol

I will say I never thought this day would arrive! Tomorrow surgery at Riverside in Columbus. Have to be there at 1:00pm surgery at 3:30pm. I am anxious and trying to not be consumed by my thoughts...

I am so blessed to be able to receive this tool to help improve my life. Making this choice has changed me into someone different and I am glad.

I have became an advocate for my own health and needs. Others around me don't always agree but that's is ok.. I know what I need to obtain my dreams.

Good luck to everyone

I am getting ready to leave the hospital shortly, just showered and got my street clothes on. They have to remove my staples and my iv then I am gone. It has been an awesome stay though. The nurses are fantastic.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
