April 2014 pre-op group

Recommended Posts

My surgery is on April 24th. I am so excited and nervous!! What percentage of our weight do we have to loose in the liquid diet phase. 5 or 10%?

I think it depends on your surgeon. Mine didn't have a preop weight loss requirement. I am on day 10 and have loss 5 percent.

It's harder than ever the site of food is making me get nauseous . I sometimes rethink this cuz I don't like the pain I'm feeling and the meds are taking longer than the hospital lol . But anyways I try to get as much Water as I can but I still get scared of feeling nauseated after sips. This is really hard but I won't give up . Just need to heal and rest too

im on day 2 of my preop ive lost 4.6lbs since yesterday morning by only having 3 shakes a day and 80 ounces of Water. im starving and my head is killing me. i never imagined my head would be pounding this bad. im going through all the worst possible cravings and being a nanny and having to prepare dinner for kids doesn't help the slightest. i feel so grouchy and irritable. whenever i try to work out i get really light headed and i dont know why. =[ i find myself doubting my decision bc i am so hungry. anyone going through things like this?

I did and the reason ur head is pounding is because ur lacking sodium. So if it's possible try to have mash potatoes with some salt not to much but have that with some veggies. If we wasn't on a diet I would just say eat a bag of chips lol but ofcourse we can't have that and also from sitting to standing go slow it will also help . Water is flavor less so we need flavored stuff

I'm feeling the same way! I'm on day two of the liquid diet. Nothing but Protein Shakes, yogurt and any sugar free drink that I want. I can not stand the taste of the Protein shakes they make me gag as soon as the smell hits my nose. Today the head ache seems to be worse than yesterday and I feel a little "off". Like things I wouldn't normal forget or mistakes I usually wouldn't make keep happening. I keep snapping for the littlest of things but I'm also supposed to start my period this week so I'm wondering if that's making it worse.. Can't wait for this part to be over

Going through the same thing. Walking seems to be the only thing that helps with the gas build up. Also if the liquids are room temp they're easier to go down and you don't get the tight feeling in your chest as much. Feel like I'm sleeping too much tho and not getting all my Protein and Water in. Remember when eating tons was like nothing and now even a little bit is the hardest thing lol.

I know the changes are sooo weird. I was never satisfied with the amount of food I would have now I get full on a small sip

Of water. Lol I feel like water & protein goes down a lot easier if it's really old. I started my Vitamins today & took forever to get my multi Vitamin in. The flavor grossed me out but was easily tolerated before surgery. All the others were ok. I think I'll have to try a different multi vitamin this weekend.

I'm sitting here contemplating my "last meal" since my 3 day preop clear liquid starts tomorrow.

I made my Jello this morning, Popsicles ready, broth and liquids ready. Tomorrow will be a challenge because we will be eating out for lunch and at a huge BBQ for dinner. Ugh!

My doc suggested waiting a week and then only doing chewables like Flinstones or something. Orange flavoring isn't too bad. Crazy that we have to stay hydrated and do like 60 grams of protein but can't do more then 4 Fluid ounces at a time. Read on here that people are freezing their shakes into ice pops. That may help with getting it all in

You can do it! I thought I would never be able to handle it but I did. I had surgery on the 9th and the doctor said she could tell I followed it because my liver looked great. No drain for me!

I was discharged yesterday late afternoon. Had a rough night at home last night. Was up a lot, in pain, still had gas pains, feel really bloated & gross. Finally had a Real shower as soon as I got home which was really nice. I'm struggling with getting all my Protein in & Water. Seems like even though I been sipping it maybe I'm drinking it too fast. I suddenly get this discomfort pain in my chest & have to wait for it to pass. I haven't really been nauseous. But I'm still taking my pain meds that dr sent me home with. Hoping & praying each day gets easier for us all!

Hi - thanks for sharing - I am having the same issue but trying to focus on is it pain or gas or just healing. I have the same discomfort in my chest. It does pass but it keeps me from sleeping any length of time. I seem to be tolerating the liquids but then I get these waves of pain. Seeing that you are having the same issues, makes me think it's normal. I am taking the pain med too. We just had major surgery and it's only been a few days. Wishing you the best.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
