loving.life 110 Posted February 20, 2014 My husband is post op 1 yr 3 months. He lost 90lbs and is happy with his 215 weight. I just want to share some info. Saturday he puked blood.. (didn't tell me) Sunday, Monday, Tuesday he passed blood.. and emailed me from work to ask me to make him a doc appointment .. then put a PS that he didn't tell me but had been passing blood! So I call doc, doc says "if we ever, and I mean ever puke or pass blood go to ER NOW!! so I leave the house, pick him up from work and take him to the hospital.. that was 3 days ago.. he is still in the hospital. After a scope they show a large ulcer on his incision in his pouch.. still bleeding. They still are considering a transfusion due to so much blood lost.. he is ok.. on liquids and meds and being well taken care off.. My point of this thread is to say that if you ever see black stool, or red anywhere, please take care. If he had gone the first day im sure he would be home by now and not had such a hard recovery. 3 DLCoggin, kata13 and pquinn181 reacted to this
DLCoggin 1,788 Posted February 20, 2014 Thank you loving.life! We all benefit from sharing our thoughts, ideas and experiences. But none of it, NONE of it, is as important as talking and listening to your DOCTOR. What a great reminder to us all. Asking your doctor fifty questions often results in fifty minor answers. Failing to ask your doctor one, can be life-threatening. Got it! 2 terry1118 and pquinn181 reacted to this
SnowDaisy 73 Posted February 20, 2014 Oh my. I hope he is doing better now. What treatment are they going to do for him. I know this might sound gross, but what was his fecal matter like? I know they say black feces indicate upper gi bleed, and bright red blood indicate lower gi bleed, but what's the consistency like? I'm three weeks out and have had diarrhea for at least 2 weeks, it is dark but I have been told it's that I'm not tolerating the Protein shakes well (what else can I do?) and that the color is probably down to the Iron I'm taking. I was also told to continue taking Nexium for at least 6 months to prevent ulceration of the pouch. Did your husband take any medicine to prevent ulcers? It's so scary. I hope all is well now...take care. Xx
