I do eat Kellogg's complete bran Cereal. This is allowed on my eating plan given by my nut at the hospital I had surgery. I eat it about once a week. I don't have a carb limit.. But a calorie and Protein gram requirement. 800 calories and at least 70 grams of protein. I am 10 weeks out. Check with your nut or doc.

It does help with Constipation. And for me as long as I stay away from sweets and eat healthy carbs. I don't get carb cravings. However, every one is different . Try it and if it does give u cravings ..then u know what u have to do,

My personal experience is to avoid the bad carbs. As soon as I started to add them back in, all I wanted to do was eat white toast with lots of butter, and other useless foods. It's a struggle now to stick with the veggies, fruits and whole grains. Those bad carbs have my name all over them. It's so easy to go back down the bad path. Every day I wake up determined not to give in to those cravings. I'm only 10 weeks out, and wish I'd never had that first bite of non whole grain Pasta. It starts the cycle....... Again, this is only my personal experience, but it scares the crap out of me how easy it is to fall back into bad patterns.

Thanks everyone. I reallyfeel I could benefit by eating raisen bran for the Constipation issue, but I am a carbaholic. Just like an alcoholic avoids the drink, I don't know where to quit when I start with carbs. I have to wonder if a small amount of raisen bran would cause cravings though. I guess I just need to try and see. It's going to eat up all my carb allowance for Breakfast.< /p>

I like to eat steel oats every day as it is considered a resistant starch:

http://authoritynutrition.com/resistant-starch-101/

Read the article. It has so many amazing benefits from fat loss to insulin resistance to reduction in inflammation.

I also eat Fiber one cereal, but do not know if it is considered a resistant starch or not. Both fuel me for my workouts.

Steel cut oats is one cup of oats to four cups of Water. They take about 45 minutes to cook. Uncovered

There is also quick steel oats that takes just 5 minutes. This is something I usually do for myself in the morning when my stash of slow cook oats in the fridge is used up. My wife usually helps me with making a batch of slow cook oats once a week.

The best time to eat the oats is when you wake up in order to restore glycogen stores in the muscles without crashing a few hours later (usually caused by simple carbs). Simple carbs (dextrose) and complex carbs in liquid form are needed for immediately after working out, within 20 minutes. The carbs are needed for the Protein to inject into the muscles properly; otherwise the Protein is not utilized that well at these two times. Otherwise, try and not to eat carbs during the day in order to maximize fat burning.

Maybe my system will line out soon too. Thats really been hard to get lined out with that. Taking dulcolax 2x daily just to go. I can't continue doing that.

For those of you who eat steel cut oats, do you add anything? Cinnamon, Splenda, fruit?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
