Hello all! I am only in the beginning documented months of a diet plan before insurance approval so I have some time yet before the surgery. But I was wondering what the recovery time was for most people. I know everyone is different and every body heals differently. I have a 4yr old son that my mom and sister will help out with during recovery but I just want to know when people returned to work or were able to get up and move around comfortably.

I have a 3 year old son. You can't lift for a good 4 weeks but your child is 4 so should not be that much of an issue. You can usually return to work in 2 weeks if you have a desk job. If you do any type of lifting it's usually 4 weeks. You will need help at home b/c you will feel ok barring no complications by the time you get home BUT you are EXTREMELY fatigued. It is major surgery. You will need as much help as possible the first week and some 'breaks' the following. I took 3 weeks off... I go back this Monday and I am so ready. Hope this helps.

I am planning on a 4 day weekend off and then working from home for a week or two but I don't have any kids, I have two cats that are about the size of 3 year old. Good thing for your mom and sister.

I have an office job. Surgery was on a Thursday & was off through the following Friday. I then worked from home the 2nd week. Definitely felt very tired so I probably worked 32-36 hours instead of 40. I highly suggest at least 2 weeks. Take all the help you can get those first few weeks.

You're not really in pain as much as you are tired from not getting a lot of nutrition / Protein in. Not much energy!

I took 4 weeks and did work some from home during that time. Some people take even longer. Everyone is different.

I had my surgery Jan 7th, the first two weeks were hardest for me. I have a 16 year old, so I had to cook for him and get him to and from. I Didn't complain it got me up and moving. I had a few issues during that recovery time, but I was back working full time on Jan 28th. I am definitely glad I took the time I needed and didn't rush it. Aside from not being able to eat much, it doesn't feel like I have been sleeved. I am now 6 weeks out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
