A Very Disappointed Lap-Band Patient

Recommended Posts

Have you had blood work done lately to make sure your hormones are still ok? Do you think your thyroid might be acting up.

From the sounds of it, I'd feel the same way that you feel based on your surgeons response. Can you track your food and bring him a journal? Can you cut up all your food and ask him if they are small enough bites (and that you still chew them to smithereens). That's the only way I can have steak - starting with super tiny cubes and chewing a lot.

I'd suggest to try to search out for another surgeon to do your fills. In the end it comes down to money and I'm sure you'll find someone that will take yours without giving you lip.

Oh - does your office have a nutritionist? Sometimes those are nicer and help you get to the bottom of the details.

So sorry you are going thru this. I can relate. I went back to the doc this week and as he suggested-Go back to the Rules.

Eat solid foods

East only three meals a day - no Snacks

Keep your weights once a week

Pouch is the size of golf ball that never changes

No liquids with meals

No liquids as a meal

No liquids with calories between meals

No soups/chili/oatmeal- anything with a spoon is considered a liquid

No liquid at least 1 1/2 hour after a meal

No sweet tea, regular cola, juice or Protein shakes (may have diet cola that is flat)

Take no longer than 20 minutes to eat a meal if you are eating longer than that you are probably trying to out eat the Band

I hope maybe one of these rules may help you back on track- I know I needed reminding of a couple- especially the Soup one.

Good luck!

I appreciate your input, chasingadream. After reading the struggle I am having, I do not think it's fair for you to include a graphic in your response to my post. Please understand, although I applaud your weight loss success, put yourself in my shoes. Would you embrace 'this graphic' if you were struggling, as I am?

Sorry to hear about all of that....I am only 5 months post surgery so dont have any great words of wisdom except to ask.....is it possible to switch to another doctor in the practice (if there is more than one) or can you find another doctor to help you.

I can only imagine how hard this journey would be if my surgeon was as unsupportive as your sounds to be.

Wishing you luck..let us know how it works out.

Sorry you were offended by my ticker. As gowalking posted it is a signature on my replies and appears on EVERYONES response when I post. I am 44 years old and have been overweight my ENTIRE life. I have dieted since I was 16 years old and was ashamed to have let myself get to 280 pounds....my highest weight ever before having this surgery. So although I can be sympathetic to what is happening to you, no I do not understand how you are feeling. Luckily I have had success with my band and am proud of what I have been able to accomplish with alot of hard work on my part....for that I will not apologize.

So if you only want unsuccessful people to read and respond to your posts than that is what you should add in your title...or perhaps you can message Alex and have him ban ALL tickers so noone will every be offended.

I wont lie....your response was very hurtful to me that you would make a broad assumption that I was here to "throw it in your face or show you up" when you were down. This is the problem with this site, at times, people are just out of line!

Wishing you all the success you deserve and hoping you solve your issue with your surgeon!

Libb, I'm confused on your reply to chasingadream....what "graphic" did she/he include? If you are talking about the ruler that appears below each of our posts I'm sure they meant nothing by it as it's a "signature" that is attached automatically (once we add them) and not something that she/he added to upset you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
