Ok guys....I need help

Recommended Posts

I am 5 weeks post op and on soft foods.....thank god. Anyways, I am freaking hungry. I try my hardest not to snack in between meals because I know that is not good. But if I eat at 11 i am hungry by 230-3. And I don't know what to do. I have contacted my hospital staff since they told me anytime I need help to call them but I had to leave a message. Right now I am ok with still being hungry, like some people say that the hunger leaves them but I'm ok having the normal hunger but this wanting to eat every 4-5 hours is not cool. Any ideas on what I can do to help that? Oh I am taking ant-acids

I still get hungry every 2.5 hours, so dont worry, you,'re not alone. I was told to snack on nuts and dried fruit. I do this and also stuff some deli ham or roasted chicken down my neck. Milk is good too, for seeing you through. We're clearly part of the hungry brigade :0)

My surgeon/nutritionist says small meals every 2-3 hours. Whenever I get hungry between meals I have a cheese stick or something like that.

I think wanting to eat every 4-5 hours is ok, isn't it? I don't think you are overly hungry if it's that few and far between.

My NUT also wants me to have something every 4 hours or so. I typically do 3 meals and 2 Snacks a day. cheese stick or yogurt are go-tos I get little bags of nuts at Trader Joe's or I'll have a Protein bar.

Eat slow. At this stage it should take you about 30 minutes to eat anout 1/4-1/2 cup of food.

Then wait about 30 minutes and drink your Water.

By the by, you SHOULD be getting hungry about ever 2-2.5 hours, like Madame said.

In agreement with the above posters......you should be hungry every few hours. You can't get enough food into your tiny tummy to hold you longer than that.

Sadly, i was not one of those that lost my hunger. I joke that I came out of surgery hungry. It's only a half joke

Agreed with everyone here - 4-5 hours is certainly long enough to get hungry. I eat 3 meals and 2 Snacks a day. I will say I lost my hunger they way it used to be. Now when I'm "hungry" I'm really grouchy and when I get my food I have a really hard time eating slowly with small bites. I try to not let myself get that hungry.

I woke up from my sleeve surgery hungry, and I am genuinely hungry every 2-3 hours. I honestly think that's normal and healthy as (1) eating at regular intervals keeps your blood sugar stable and your metabolism healthy, and (2) we have such small capacities, we have to take in food 4-5 times per day to hit macronutrient goals.

What I find works for me is to schedule mealtimes for my baby sleeve just like I schedule mealtimes for my actual babies. Just like with my children, it takes 3-4 days for my baby sleeve to stop fussing and wanting what it wants when it wants it. I eat five times a day (six if the day is very long), and I eat every three hours. I get my day started around 8:00, so I eat at 9:00, noon, 3:00, 6:00, and again at 9:00. Breakfast and Snacks are 100-150 calories each, and lunch and dinner are usually between 200-300 calories. I range between 850-1000 calories per day, and 85-100g Protein.

I'm eleven weeks out, almost 60 pounds down, and I've not technically stalled once. (I did just come out of a WL delay of about one week, but that's not technically a stall, and I busted out of it with a large loss.)

Thank you everyone. I'm glad I'm not the only one who is hungry. Now that I know that I should have 3 meals and 2 Snacks I think my attitude will change for the better

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
