New to bariatric pal. Just had my first post op checkup

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. My name is kathy and I am two weeks and two days post op. I was sleeved on 02/03/2014. I am 56 yrs old and my beginning stats were 242 lbs on October 1,2013 with a BMI of 47.3, I am only 5 feet tall. I have diabetes, osteoarthritis and COPD. I quit smoking 14 months ago and the next step was the WLS. My goal is to get back to a healthy place so I can finish raising my grandchild.. I was not given a preop diet to follow. I live in Lancaster Ohio and my surgeon is Dr Thomas Sonnanstein at Riverside Methodist Hospital/ Fresh Start Bariatrics. I was completely elated with my weight loss for two weeks which was a bit over 18 bls. I am now in the blended diet and struggling to figure out what consistency my food should be but I will get it. I am determined and now searching for a support group locally. Good luck to all that have already been on their journey or those that are just starting.

Congrats! I am in the beginning stages of WLS and go for my group orientation Sept 27 at The McConnell Heart Center and Dr. Rana is going to be doing my surgery. If you don't mind can you share the process that you went through in this program? I have so many questions lol. You said no preoperative diet, is that typical for this program? What was the post-op care like? I'm sorry for so many questions, but I've read a lot of other stories, but looking for one specific for the hospital I am going through.

Thanks@

The process was pretty quick I went to the free orientation then they scheduled me for an intake appointment. I had to go to classes for learning about food and how to eat with a nutritionist I had to see a psychologist so I had one appointment then and then I went into Dr. Sonnastine's office they took my picture gave us all the paperwork and then they scheduled my surgery I have lost a total of 115 pounds have never felt better and I've maintained my weight for the last almost 2 years

You look great! Thank you so much for the info! I do know I'll have to meet with a nutritionist 3 times. They told me that we're looking at either January or February for surgery ????. So excited to see what things are like after. I hope I have as much success as you!

That sounds like a great day to have it! I'm hoping for a Thursday or Friday so I can have that weekend, that week and the next weekend to recover. I work for OhioHealth in Mansfield and have a desk job so I don't think it will be bad at all from what I've read from other sleepers who've had it.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
