7 months out of surgery. All I want is fruit to eat!

I grew up on fruit. Now the doctors say I can't have it. What do you do to replace it?

I eat fruit all the time. I have a banana every day. Maybe it depends on how you can tolerate sugar.

I eat fruit and veg everyday. If it is a snack I have Protein with it. For example I will drink 4 ounces of milk and eat 1/2 banana. Strawberries ill eat an ounce of walnuts or almonds with. I never eat the fruit alone without a protein. In fact I eat more nutritionally now than ever. I don't buy low fat or fake sugar stuff. I only eat whole foods even if they are higher in fat I just eat less and I measure everything.

I can eat just about any fruit I want. I was never told I couldn't. I would check on that with your nut.

I'm the same way, though there are a few things I buy low fat. Mayonnaise, salad dressing, and sour cream are the main ones. I never buy anything fat free, unless it's naturally fat free. Too many additives are put into fat free stuff.

I usually eat my banana with Peanut Butter. I get Skippy reduced fat peanut spread. 'Spread' is different from 'butter'. Less oils and fats are added in.

I do not understand why your doctors are saying no fruits. Fruits are the best source of Proteins and Vitamins. I hope it is only for some time.

They are full of minerals and Vitamins but they are carbohydrates not Protein for the most part. There are a couple of exceptions of course.

Mine said no fruit while healing - fibers can get caught in staples and chunks not chewed well will cause problems. After you're fully healed fruits are a great source of nutrition and dietary Fiber. Some fruits (like bananas) are high in sugar with less fiber and may cause dumping in some people. Having some sort of Protein w/your fruit can help prevent that. Berries of all types are a great source of fiber. fruit juice is not recommended by my team - juice has all the sugar with none of the fiber benefits. Drinking a glass of orange juice is way more sugar than a single orange. Some people dilute juice w/water which gives you the flavor if you're craving it. :-)

Try apple sauce. That's all I am allowed to have. I think they say no fruit due to sugar content!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
