What exactly do you think a "fast loser" is?

Recommended Posts

I always hear people refer to themselves or others as a fast loser or a slow loser. What do you consider to be a fast loser, slow loser and an average loser? Lets say from about 3 months out from post op.

I am only 2 months post op but I had considered myself an average loser, my numbers are in my signature.

Hmmm interesting as to me it depends on your starting weight bigger people go down faster so I would go with my weight grouping and that’s over 400lbs and say after 3 months slow would be 30-60lbs, average 90-150lbs and fast would be 200lbs+.

I can't quantify these numbers for you, but I will suggest an app that I use daily. It's call"Get-2-Goal" in the iPhone App Store. It is very simple weight loss tracker that plots out your weight loss according to your surgery date and puts it on a graph that show Above average , Average or Keep working. The also have a progress table for expected WL @ 6, 12 24 months.

I have used this tool for 5 months and I consistently fall slightly above the average line, for example , at 5 months I weigh 176. The "average" weight at 6 months based on my stats is 172 and @12 months is 150.

This app is free and really helps me track my progress. It also showed me that as of today I am 72% towards my goal weight . It gives me a nice little affirmation.

Great App - Thanks for Sharing. It made me feel great to know that I'm still above average even though I've been stalled for about a month!!!

Well that's depressing. It's a great app but I didn't even earn a "keep trying". I'm in my third week and I've lost about 15 lbs so far.

Oh dear, thank you for sharing and I know you meant well to share an app that works for you, but comparing yourself to others during WLS is so not a good idea. Everyone is different. While that app will certainly cheer up some people, it's bound to be a downer to others. There are just way too many variables in individual weight loss. If you know you are following your plan, getting in your Water, exercising, etc. then be happy and enjoy your trip, even if it is a slow stroll instead of a freeway. :)

The idea of what is a slow loser is so interesting. I consider myself a slow loser, but some people (not many!) lose slower than I do, so I guess it is all relative.

I've been using get-to-goal from the beginning. It does help to see averages.

While I completely understand that losing the weight slowly is frustrating, try to remember that the slower is comes off the longer it stays off and the better your body will look in the long run. As long as you losing, remember it's not a race.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
