Just had surgery on Monday....my gas pains are terrible! I walked today plus used like a whole box of gas-x strips. Ugh! Hope it resolves soon :(

Walking was the only thing that helped the gas pains for me - I walked every hour on the hour. Gas-X didn't help because it was the gas they pumped into me that was causing the pain.

It will be gone soon - hang in there, it will get better.

aw wow! I am not sure if this is the same pain experienced by those with gallbladder disease...but if it is...I know your pain! with GD the gas and air was trapped throughout my entire digestive system. I was also in agony. the worst part was the problem couldn't be fully resolved until I had my gallbladder removed. sometimes the pressure, bloat and gas was so severe that I had to take shallow breaths...I couldn't even fill my lungs up fully without screaming in pain. my back, chest, under my ribcage, my sides...EVERYTHING hurt. hang in there, remember to walk, walk, walk it out, and I have seen others say gas x or Prilosec helped them immensely.

That's the thing, I'm felt like it never passed either through farthing or burping! Lol so idol where it went! But I had my drain tube removed yesterday and that made a big difference. Feeling a lot better without that! Not feeling naw much gas either.

I had my surgery Tuesday and have gas galore. I can't drink anything but Water because it is like a gas bubble forms in my esophagus. I get my drain tube out Monday. Fingers crossed that will help.

Yes, almost a week. It is really a nuisance and I hope when it comes out, some gas will go with it. The gas is really the only pain I am having other than just soreness.

This is exactly how I felt. I had surgery wednesday. I got my drain out today, and not only did I instantly feel better, a couple hours later I had the best fart/poop session evet! Hah. I'm still full of gas, but the pains are SO MUCH BETTER now that the drain is out.

Ditto. Getting my drain out was like a total release of pressure. Plus a nagging pain under my rib cage disappeared immediately.

It's also awesome how much easier it is to get up and sit down after she removed the drain.

I know!!! I'm not feeling like I'm dying every time I lower or raise myself off the toilet, which I was.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
