Pain Relief - Need some advice.

Recommended Posts

It took me a few days to get into bed. I lived in a recliner that DH brought up from his home theater room for a few days. He put it in line with the TV, and a tv tray next to it with my laptop, phone, the remotes, etc. (I was home alone after surgery day - I wouldn't let DH stay home with me). My surgery was a Wednesday and it wasn't until Friday or Saturday that I got into a bed. It took a long time, trying to get situated without moving my abdomen. I seem to remember a lot of scooting with the arms and pushing with the feet. :)

Plus I'm a side sleeper, so lots of waking up at night as I tried to roll over. A few things I found that helped - pillow overdose. So that I was never really laying, but always kind of propped up. And I found that wedging the corner of a pillow under my stomach made it possible to lay on my side. If you don't have one, pick up one of the body pillows. They made sleeping life so much easier.

I also found that walking was much, MUCH easier if I supported my stomach. I had a hangy stomach, and my port incision (close to centered on my chest, an inch or two below my bra line) was KILLING me when I tried to walk. I literally staggered along hunched over like an old woman. Until I put my arm under my stomach, and held the weight from it. This took the pressure off the incision area and the difference was like night and day.

Good to hear about the pain fading. I was banded yesterday (3/29). I enjoyed the effects of the anesthesia hanging on and the morphine pump at the hospital. LOL! My pain was never higher than a 5 and often closer to 2-3. Now I'm at about 3. I'm taking vicodin and liquid tylenol.

Hope everyone continues to improve!

I was banded 3/27 and I have to admit my pain so far was minimal. The worst was the muscle aches in my shoulders and neck from the anethesia. Once that left my body I felt better. I kept the bending to a minimum, but i do have to admit it is only today that I can sit down and get up with hardly any pain. I actually felt better after the prescribed meds left my body-just tylenol now. I hope you feel better soon Cascadian-at least you are doing better than the guy on the other thread who chewed unchewable prenatal Vitamins.< /p>

I'm watching you two.. I'm one day behind you so please keep posting. I'm preparing for a rough day tomorrow, as you said day 2 is the worst. I'v got Darvocet all ground up.. So far I've only need 1/2 dose. and I'm taking it every 4 hours, but I'm walking real good. I really look forward to your posts.

Rebecca, stay current on your pain meds tomorrow. The anesthesia will wear off even more by then, for you, and then the pain will probably be more obvious. But if you take your darvocet you will do fine. I hope to start cutting back on my vicodin tomorrow or Sunday.

Stay ahead of the pain!

Good luck to you.

I had surgery on 3/30. My pain was gas related....really. I took Lortab for the first couple of days but drank as much Water as possible and moved around the apartment. I also had some advice about sleeping/resting on my sides to assist the gas collecting and moving out of my system. Needless to say....by Tue....WAM-OH, gas gone!! (The porceline god was being worshiped!) So...as the gas moves, that could be the lessening of the pain as well. Best of luck! :clap2:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
