Excited, but nervous...waiting patiently for approval

Recommended Posts

This is my first post, I have been stalking the site for about a month now :) I have SO SO many questions that I don't even know where to begin. I think my biggest fear is gaining the weight back, "stretching" the sleeve and it be a failure. I'm 38 with several issues including type 2 diabetes, and I'm doing this to hopefully put it into remission....advice or encouragement is needed and truly welcomed...blessings to everyone!

Kelsmurf hi and welcome congrats on your choice to be healthy, you say you are doing this to reverse your type 2 diabetics as well as fear of you regaining weight back. Your fears are normal, I had the option of either the sleeve or the gastric bypass, I suggest you do some additional research I am looking into the gastric bypass now because it almost 99 percent reverse type 2 diabetics, it has the malabsorption if you like sweets or have a sweat tooth, my husband is fixated in that one, I'm going to see my surgeon next month to review everything I have been hoping through this process for 7 and a hard months.there are wonderful people here with great advice good look.

Thank you Cupcake for the suggestion, I chose the sleeve because of the malabsorption issue with the bypass, and also because of the less likely of dumping happening (sorry if tmi) and i already know what that is like :( all the research I have done shows a greater than 85% chance of remission with type 2 diabetes, and at this point I have 0% chance. I have loved this site too, I called my insurance and they have till Thursday to review it...ugh just ready to get approval and date scheduled...good luck to you too!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
