I'm 6 months out and still drink them to supplement my Protein intake. Once you're past the first 3 weeks after surgery, it's up to you. Some days I'm just not up to eating all my protein from food, or don't have time.

I still drink them. I continue to try different brands. I also drink Nature's Best Isopure, 40grams of protien in a 20oz bottle. My favorite flavors are grape and coconut.

Over two years out and have one for Breakfast almost every day. My surgeon set the Protein goal at 100g a day and I have hit it about 95% of the time for over two years. I seldom have a problem getting the remaining 65g a day from food but without the shake, the 100g goal would be difficult to achieve on a consistent basis.

Most doctors seem to recommend 60g-80g a day for the gals. After the first year, some have little trouble hitting that goal with food alone. But getting ALL of you doctor's recommended daily Protein is crucially important for the first year following your surgery. Protein is extremely important for repairing and replacing damaged tissue as the result of the surgery, reducing loss of lean muscle during the rapid weight loss stage, protecting against bacterial and viral infections, keeping your metabolism and energy levels up and reducing hair loss.

Real food is always the best option for getting your protein and if you can meet your goals with food - great! If you're struggling, shakes and powders are versatile and convenient options.

Right now that's all I'm getting for nourishment. Just before Christmas I felt a lump in my throat, I thought it was phlegm. But I couldn't swallow and if I did manage to swallow I only vomited it later. This was the second time I had trouble swallowing. First time I had all kinds of tests now it's a guessing game so I went to Mass Eye,Ears and Throat Institute they found a lump by my voice box and it interferes with swallowing. I watched as the doctors were following my lump. So I haven't had any food since 2/14 and just had swallowing ct scans on Thursday. I can't wait to have this fixed. I'm dying for a steak and to just be able to eat. Protein Shakes with hot chocolate and ice cream twice a day is getting old. But I've only lost 2lbs. Aside from the 154lbs I already lost.

Sent Sunday night in the ER because of nausea. and vomiting. I explained to the Dr about my lump and something will be done about it. Anyhow they filled me up with fluids, meds and sent me home. I felt a lot better. Bad to Protein Shakes.< /p>

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
