VSG: Expectations vs Reality

Recommended Posts

I thought the surgery would be worse than it actually was. Recovered fairly quickly

I thought the cravings would go away but it's still there. I tried some pizza & wings and it tasted good but i couldn't eat as much as i used...i'm talking about being full from 2 wings

I thought the weight loss would be faster. The slow pace has been soo frustrating and i'm hoping the payoff is less loose skin/skin having time to bounce back

What about you?

I haven't had the surgery but from what I have been reading...genetics are a factor..I mean age will play a factor,,,how we eat..hopefully others who had the surgery will chime in

I don't know what you lost before surgery, but 48 pounds in 3 months is, I am sure, more than you had lost presurgery and it has got to feel pretty good. I think that it fluctuates and depends on how you are eating, the Protein, etc. Be diligent on getting in what you are supposed to, and it happens. Don't get too discouraged. It will happen.

The weight loss is slower than I ecpected. I read of people losing 100 pounds in 3 months. Not that I ever thought I would lose like that. I am coming to terms with the fact that I am a slow loser compared to most. But the good news is that the weight IS coming off! Far more than I could have ever lost without the sleeve.

I am satisfied with my pace of weight loss but at 2 months post op I am constantly disappointed, concerned, nervous about the fact that I have been able to tolerate all foods and liquids.

There is no question that I am not eating the choices and quantities pre surgery but as I get further along I am less strict. That's not a good sign for me. I haven't had any real "no-no" foods but I was hoping that a physical reaction might help me to stay away from certain things.

I find myself wanting to "test" it to see how far it will let me go.

Anyway. No stalls yet so I'll keep plugging along!

I would think that the amount of physical activity and exercising at a fat burning heart rate would also play a HUGE factor in a persons weight loss post VSG, jyst as it does in losing weight without weight loss surgery.

Why is it that people always remember the ones who lose fast and forget the people who lose slow? LOL.

Everyone loses differently. i never lost more than 2 lbs a week and I exercised from the second week on, almost daily. But I'm 53 and post menopausal female. A young woman will lose faster, a man will lose faster, pretty much everyone else loses faster. So forget about comparing yourself and just enjoy your personal journey.

What really surprised me? How uncomfortable it is to overeat. How bad the first month was. How hard it was to reprogram myself to eat so much Protein and severely reduce carbs (I was a carb addict). How easy it is to eat sliders and fall back into old ways.

I wasn't expecting the gas pains, the week after surgery, to be so awful. Even when I walked a ton, it still hurt so much. :C

Thankfully, that's forever in the past now.

I also kinda expected the weight to come off a little quicker.

I'm 20, getting more and more active, doing my best to get in my Protein, and I've only lost 54 lbs so far.

my VSG was Oct. 24, 2013.

I kinda expected to see a big difference, but... I don't notice much. Everyone else raves about how I look different, but.. I don't see it.

Maybe I'll see it when I get to the weight I was when I first started to super gain weight, back in 2010.

I recovered better than I thought.

Didn't think I would ever feel hunger and post op five weeks I do.

It hasn't been as easy as I thought it would be.

I've been able to eat food I didn't think I would ever be able to eat again.

Thought my joints and knees wouldn't hurt once I started loosing weight...they do.

I wasn't expecting to feel nauseas so much during that first month. It felt like I was pregnant with morning sickness all over again. I had to make sure to take an anti nausea pill each morning before I got out of bed and carried the bottle around with me just in case the nausea kicked in at any moment, which it had, especially during the 1st 2 weeks. BUT it does get better!

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
