Phase 2 soups? Full Liquids

Recommended Posts

I'm one week post op and the NUT says only four kinds of Soup. Butternut, Cream Tomato, Split Pea, and Lentil. I thought it was a strange pick of four Soups. She said to only stick with those. I'm just curious why I can't have other soups such as potato, celery, or cream chicken. All of those are more bland and less rough on the tummy I'd think. Pea, tomato and lentil are not the easiest on the tummy with acid, and Fiber in the peas and lentils. What soups to you all eat phase 2?

I wasn't given any restriction on the type of Soup. That is odd. I would ask the NUT the reason.

My list of Soups for full liquids says any strained creamed soups (cream of chicken, cream of shrimp, cream of potato).

My surgeon says to stay away from lentils and split pea for a while. Weird how different surgeons can be so, well, different!

i would love to eat butternut squash soup! I was just given a paper that says cream Soups, but have been afraid to try anything but celebrates cream of chicken , which I love! It also has 21 grams of protein!

Full liquids according to my doc are strained cream Soups like cream of chicken, etc. My doc said stay away from lentil and almost all of the ones you listed.... hmm.

I am also 1 week post op and have started the full liquid diet. I had no restrictions on the cream of anything Soups. Just don't eat any of the stuff floating in there. It is so much more substantial than the clear broth so it is more satisfying. I'm also eating apple sauce, pudding, Jello, and grits and of course my Protein drinks. Each person's surgery is different and each Surgeon has a different recovery process. But they all say..... sip, sip, sip those fluids. LOL

Yes, definitely SIP, SIP, SIP.

I say that as I post from a hospital bed due to severe dehydration.

SIP!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
