I am asking a question here NOT to be criticized, but just for suggestions. If you do not agree with drinking after surgery well than thats your life style and my question is for someone who does. That being said,,

It's my birthday and my husband and I planned an all inclusive get away WITHOUT the kids. Havent been away since before kids were born 5 years ago. I have no problem making healthy food choices while away. I know Protein first and all that. My real question is what drinks I should have. Again, I know Alcohol is not healthy so I dont need a lecture. But I do like to have a few drinks, especially by the pool. But problem is margaritas and all those frozen drinks are loaded with sugar and will surely make me nauseous, I cant drink carbonated beverages so diet coke and rums or vodka sodas are out. And I dont want anything too strong like martinis b/c I dont want to over due it or be sick. Wine is always safe especially watered down. If anyone has suggestions that I have not thought of id like to hear them. Thanks!!

You look amazing and you should be able to go out and enjoy your special time alone with your hubby and Celebrate. You have to know what drinks will work for you and not cause you to get sick only you can answer that as you try them. I too love patron margarita baby!! Especailly the wonderful pomergrant margaritas I make. Perhaps if you make your own you will be able to limit your sugar intake. I have tried the skinny girl margaritas and I dont like them to much. But hey taste change as you have learned and i have friends who love them. Have a wonderful time and do some research of the food and drink choices at the resturants you will go too!

Thanks for the reply. I guess I will have to spend ths week before the vacation trying out which alcohols work best for me..right..lololol Thanks for the advice. I am thinking a bloody mary may be okay, and a little white wine mixed with crystal ligt.

The thing to remember is that drinking alcohol cause dehydration. Dehydration causes dizziness , nausea and severe legs cramps. Stay hydrated. Two of any drink is more than enough to have fun. Have a plan in place so you don't over drink. Wine is the most agreeable for me. Haven't watered it down. Alcohol seems way stronger after the sleeve.

I'm 11 months out and starting drinking wine at about 3 months out, and drink it regularly now, though nowhere near as much I used to. I find that if I want a glass I have to have it before I eat, because I literally can't drink anything for about an hour after I eat - it just won't fit!!. If I'm somewhere that only has crappy wine I'll have a vodka drink usually with orange juice and/or cranberry. This past week I was on vacation and had my very first vodka/tonic since way before surgery. Guess what? I'm still alive and the soda didn't kill me. Having said that, I still have not had just a soda in the past year, nor do I intend to start drinking it again. I don't miss it at all.

When I drink, I drink wine or vodka with orange juice. No condemnation at all. I am 8 1/2 months out and 97 pounds down.

I'm 2.5 weeks out and have a vacation planned in 8 months, so will be looking for the same advice you're requesting now in a few months! :). First, you look fantastic and I hope you have a wonderful vacation!!! :). I think that wine will probably be your best bet. Maybe a Long Island ice tea without the soda (but whoa, take it easy if you do that)! ;). Vodka and cranberry juice or OJ.

Maybe alternate a drink with a glass of Water to make sure you stay hydrated and to make sure the drink sits well on your stomach....

Anxious to hear about your vacation and what drinks you enjoy!!! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
