When can I go in the pool?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've emailed my surgeon, just wondering if anyone has experience.

Surgery was 1/27/14. Laparoscopic. No drains. Incisions are all scabbed over. My son and I are going out of town and the hotel has an indoor heated pool. I know I can't swim, surgeon said to wait 1 month before aerobic. But I'm wondering if I can go in and walk or just lounge. ???

I was open, so that might make a difference. But my surgeon said no baths or swimming until the scar is pink and smooth....so no scabs.

Xx

:(

I'd think the scab rule would be the same. I did email my surgeons PA, waiting for the reply, but you are probably right.

I had to wait 10 weeks before I could swim, or use the hot tub.

I was cleared for everything, swimming included, after 4 weeks.

Hi guys, thanks for letting me know your experiences. My surgeons PA got back to me, at least four weeks if all incision sites are healed.

I'll relax in a lounge chair instead :)

Yep, your experiences are the same as PA instructed. At least four weeks and only if incisions are healed to take a bath, go in the pool. 8 -10 weeks to start swimming, they'll evaluate at my second follow up.

Thanks

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
