Tomorrow, February 18th

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow is my surgery day. I can't sleep because I'm finally getting a little anxious. Don't get me wrong, I'm eager too... But anxiety is creeping in a bit.

It's odd, the range of emotions. I have many. Anger and resentment towards myself for letting my weight creep up so high, for not making healthier choices, for not doing this sooner. Lol

Sadness for not being able to consider food my comfort and friend. For not being able to hide behind my weight. For my kids, whose mother isn't able to keep up with them.

Terror of the IV, of not waking up. Both mine and my BF's mother went in for surgery and never made it back out. Mine had lung cancer and was in the middle of a surgical procedure and didn't make it. His was in the middle of a heart procedure and didn't make it. This scares me. I know that their circumstances were different and I have the utmost confidence in my surgeon... But I'm still scared.

Excitement that there really is an opportunity to restart my metabolism and, by making the right nutritional choices, I can lose weight and actually keep it off. Oh, the changes in life will be phenomenal.

Thankful that I've received so much support here and built great friendships with people that are able to understand my struggles. (You know who you all are and I feel blessed to have met you)

I know emotions run rampant right before surgery and being bipolar sure doesn't help, but it would sure be nice to know I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Thank you for taking the time to read this long post, April

I felt the same way. Even though this was surgery number 6 for me I still had the fear of not waking up. It was over whelming. Even the morning of surgery laying in the hospital I wanted to back out because my fear was so great. Thank goodness my husband was there to talk me through it. It is the best thing I have ever done. You will see this too. My thoughts and prayers will be with you tomorrow. You will do great.

Thank you, Sherry. I'll definitely take all the prayers you send my way.

Guess what, SuperFab? We are sleeve twins! I get sleeved tomorrow as well. You summed up ever single concern that I have. My biggest issue, even beyond the fear of never waking up again, is the issue of my relationship with food. It's so difficult for me to believe that by this time tomorrow I will have less than 20% of my stomach left and I will be physically unable to binge eat like I have before. I have used food as a drug for so long that I just don't know what it's like to cope without it. I've done everything to prepare myself since my first consult last November and now I guess all I can do is jump in with both feet and sink or swim. I have no choice but to get a divorce from compulsive eating as I know it's going to shorten my life. I'm also scared about becoming dehydrated--I've heard lots of horror stories. I plan to keep a Water bottle with me at all time and sip, sip, sip!!!

Please wish me luck and I wish you all the best!!! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
