That was a nice deal. I work for a religious facility and weight loss surgery is no cover and never will. Besides that they have good health coverage. I am going to be able to get my Protein Drinks from them though!

Hey ladies,

I just wanted to say hello. I just got approved by the BCBS and am just waiting to see the pulmonolgist as the last step before getting a surgery date.

@SugarFreeMe: how did you surgery go?

Hi there - Congratulations on your approval. BCBS was really quick for me. Also, because Dr Guske and his group know what they're doing I think the process is even quicker for them. He did tell me that his insurance coordinators are very familiar with the employees at BCBS so submissions were almost always approved. My surgery on the 18th of March went pretty good. I had a few complications, but nothing very serious. They found a Haital hernia that needed repair, not a biggie but something else to heal from. The main complication was that my body doesn't like anethesia (I'm very sensitive to it) so what happened was that my intestines and bowels essentially "slept" for a couple days following surgery. It was very uncomfortable because I wasn't passing all the gas they fill you up with. Instead of coming home Thursday morning I had to stay until Friday night. Not a huge deal and not something that would have caused me to cancel had they said it would happen. I'm now on soft food. After being on liquids and pureed since the 3rd of March, chewing is awesome. Since my pre-op diet until today I've lost 27 lbs. It's truly amazing. Let me know when you get your date, I'd love to be able to support you and share whatever I can about my progress to help you with yours if I can.

@@SugarFreeMe I'm so glad to hear that you're doing well, losing so much weight, and chewing again! That complication must have been super uncomfortable. The only thing that I've experienced with anesthesia is a tendency to cry involuntarily as I'm waking, so I'm really hoping that's the only problem lol.

And you're right about Dr. Guske's office + insurance. I got the call after approval and the lady seemed surprised that I was even worried! They are awesome.

I wish you the best of luck and will keep you posted! :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
