Have been struggling with my weight since the age of 13, I had tried many things to lose weight many diets some more successful than others. Moving to Texas and finding out that, here my insurance covers the procedure, I decided to look into having the surgery. Now that I have been approved by the doctor, I super excited to get healthy and stay healthy, and I am glad that I didn't wait til I was 50 or super BBW to do it. Does anyone have experience with true results? Anyone in the southwest Houston area?

Hi there, I'm 52 and if there's one thing I wish it's that I hadn't had the weight struggles of these last twenty years. Of course we didn't have the band back then and I'm glad I waited until now as far as new technology, but you are so right to deal with this now. You have the opportunity to get really healthy and enjoy the coming years without the effects of overweight not only on your physical body but also your self-esteem. And meanwhile you'll always have compassion for those who struggle because you have been there. Good luck to you in the coming months -- very exciting times. I am just three months out and feel so at peace with food and appetite now. Be patient, though, as it can take time after the procedure to get to the right fill. That is the name of the game right there. Be sure to choose a place that is really committed to the followup as it's all about those regular visits.

Its a tough decision for WLS no matter what your age....i had my surgery at 44 (after swearing off any type of WLS to help me---more from fear than anything else)...and after about 30 years of trying to diet unsuccessfully (or successfully and then putting it back on)...

So good for you for taking charge now...it is a wild and worthwhile journey. Do your research and truly understand what you are taking on...it is not a quick fix and it is a big change in lifestyle both physically and mentally but sooo worth it!

Best of luck and keep us posted!

Oh yes, I am so ready for a little extra help. I have lost and gained 30 or more lbs four times since 2009. I have been heavy since the age of 13. I am so tired, my child needs to be around for her, I had to to do this. And I had to do it now

@@prettyandbrwn I totally feel you on this one! I turn 31 in a few days and I have been overweight my entire life. I've yo-yo'd and the most success I found was the no carb diet, but I hated the way that it made me feel. I put on all of the 70 lbs I lost on it, and probably multiplied it.

Just like you said, I didn't want to wait until my life passed me by to do this. I already feel like I've lost out on years being overweight and morbidly obese. I want to have a healthy life and I know that the lap band will be a tool in this journey. I have to keep telling myself that this is the perfect moment to make this perfect decision.

Ccv4, I understand. It's even more relevant to me now that my child is 11. She wants to do things that make me tired. Lol I have to get this weight off.

@@prettyandbrwn I can imagine that this is going to be something so big in your life, but especially for your daughter!

i'm hoping that losing weight will also help with us being able to conceive. i know that it is difficult to do so when one is overweight--especially like me. my husband and i had not been using birth control for a few years. me being so irregular plus obese had a lot to do with never getting pregnant. i am praying and hoping that this changes things.

On myfitnesspal page, my 'quote' is that I'm tired of the weight roller coaster. I feel like the only one at work that's gone up and down so much. The latest was that I had gained about 60lbs in my current role at work (over a year time period). Gained and lost 30,40,50 many times over.

I had been trying to get pregnant for about 1.5 years and after a lot of tests my doc basically told me that I needed to lose weight and reduce my stress. Well I'm an engineer and the main breadwinner that needs the job. I've done what I can to reduce stress but it's still there. I tried to lose weight on my own but it felt stuck and therefore looked into wls. My surgeon originally requested 12 month waiting period to maximize weight loss but last visit she gave me the go ahead to start trying once I reach a goal weight for pregnancy.

I'm 3 months banded. 33.5 years old. BMI was 36.2 but now 28.9! Part of me wishes I did this earlier but I think this was the perfect time for me.

I am a firm believer that everything happens when it is supposed to. You will be pregnant in no time...but work on the stress part :)

Kimk and cccv4, you all will be ok, I usually tell people the story of my parents, when the tell me they are having trouble conceiving. My mother told me that her my dad tried for 3 years to get pregnant, one day in their drunken stuper, I was conceived. When they stopped stressing over it God et happen he wanted it to happen. And my parents were young, it will happen in due time.

Tomika

Tomika, so happy for you! Congratulations on your surgery. I hope you have a speedy recovery. I was so excited that the discomfort was pretty tolerable but this is the time to pamper yourself. I loved my Popsicles, lol. This is a little out there but when I had gas pains or difficulty getting up and down, etc. I just kept thinking this is so much better than dentistry, for example. And it was all FOR something, for me. My healthy future. Here's to your health -- you're on your way. Be patient these coming weeks and just keep thanking yourself for this gift. You deserve it!

That was my immediate though, I am going to use this tool to my ability. I have a goal to be healthy and under 200 by my birthday, December 22.

Thank you for the well wishes.

Hi Tomika, I'm just going through old threads. My surgery is on Monday. I'm 34 and wanted to see what other 30+ year olds were saying and saw this. How are you doing? It's several months post-op for your now. I hope all has been well.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
