4 week post op stall? cant be happening!

Recommended Posts

i dont know what I am doing wrong. Last tuesday was my 3 week mark. I was able to eat some mushy food. I have had some Soup (blended) and some baby food fruit. I tried oatmeal but hate it. Twice I have had a scrambled egg but it didnt sit well. I have kept my shakes as part of my diet but thats all I have had in a week. Yet since I started mushy food I have not lost an once. the three weeks before I lost 30 pounds! Im finding this really hard because I was so excited to feel some what normal again and eat and now Im not losing. I dont want to eat shakes for the rest of my life in order ot lose weight.

Can someone tell me what the heck is going on??? I should also add that I have been constipated - not sure if that helps!

Thanks...

Laura

This stall happens to most of us. Your body is adjusting to your 30 pound weight loss in 3 weeks. You can't expect your body to lose 10 pounds per weeks. I lost 18 pounds the first three weeks. Now it is slower but I am getting there. Start exercising if your dr released u to exercise. Move your body. You also want to increase your caloric. Intake a little also. See what works for u., but most of all , don't get discouraged ..keep a positive mind. And don't put all of your success on the scale., there are inches being lost, more energy being had, more of a heather body by feeding your body with healthier foods, etc. Hopefully this helps you look at the big picture.

LCOLL,

please don't get discouraged. I hit a stall at 3 weeks myself. I lost 28 lbs and the scale stopped moving. I am 9 weeks post op and what i did was started exercising more with walking and fitness dvds, increased my Water and Protein intake. I was also constipated and got some over the counter milk of magnesia and that helped me. The next thing I knew my scale started moving again. During my stall i was still losing inches. You may want to get a body tape measure and start documenting your inches in your legs, arms, neck, hips, stomach areas because this will assure you that you are still losing from week to week even when the scale does not seem to be moving. Please stay encouraged during this process. You will get past it.

I lost 22 pounds 2 weeks preop and 17 in 7 weeks post op. It's normal. A "3week stall" is normal. Losing every single day is not normal. Losing 10 pounds/week is not normal.

You are doing fine. Just keep getting your fluids and Protein and exercise and you will lose. It took years to put on weight, and you certainly won't lose it all in a few weeks. This is a lifelong process, it won't happen overnight and you shouldn't stress over.

Make sure you get your Water and Protein in - and keep moving. Don't try to do anything fancy, your body is just adjusting to the new "normal" and it will get back into its rhythm soon. Stick to the programme and relax :-)

Congratulations on a great start!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
