Shocked into action by insurance approval

Recommended Posts

Hi. I waited over a year for my insurance to even have doctors for their bariatric program. Then another 6 mos to talk hubby into paying for 6 mos of nutrition appts needed to get approval. Plus told by nutritionist I also needed to lose 20 lbs b4 I could have surgery. I was set for no surgery till at least May so imagine my surprise when I get a call to schedule my surgery because the process changed to 3 mos of nutrition appts and no wait loss other than 1 lb required by surgeon to proceed. My surgery is scheduled for March 10, 2014. Super nervous but super excited too.

I am still very nervous and having some anxiety attacks. It's funny because it feels so soon yet so far away. I'd like to know if anyone else feels this way.

What insurance do you have? I started the process in November and was told 6 months of a supervised diet but they are submitting me after 3 months saying the same thing - it is 3 months now! I am waiting to hear and keeping fingers crossed! I have Aetna.

Same thing happened to me I started in October they told me it was 6 months. .2 wks ago Nut called me and told me insurance changed beginning of year now it's only 4 months. Completed all requirements now waiting for them to submit to insurance. Hopefully they send out this coming week. I want to get this done already. .I happy, scared, nervous, stressed out soooooo much. I keep thinking if this will work for me..is it normal to feel soooooo nervous. .Plus keeping wls private is hard. .no one to speak to about my feeling except hubby.

Lovelace Health Plan. They didn't even tell me they were submitting. Just called me up to schedule my surgery for March 10. I was shocked.

I have jas insurance. They still require the dreaded 6 months wait. And I know everyone says to take that time to mentally and physically get ready for the huge changes that are coming, but it is such a long emotional roller coaster ride during those 6 months. What ya gonna do? I'm very fortunate to have insurance that covers this procedure. I'll in the end be out 50.00 for psych evaluation, 75.00 for the NUT, and a little bit for the anesthesiologist possibly and the rest is paid for by jas. Pretty cool huh?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
