I stopped all my meds immediately but checked my levels and never went over 140. Not a great number but doc says that number wouldn't require meds though just diet and exercise. So since we are on the way to lose weight or numbers should go down. I had a blood test 3 woods after surgery and my levels were good. No more meds for me! Good luck

My diabetic meds were also stopped immediately after surgery. I actually had some episodes of hypoglycemia in the hospital! Since surgery, every time I check my sugar, it's never over 120.

Congrats to u both! My sugars have been up and down. I know it's only been 3 days since the sleeve but I hope I can come off of meds entirely. At the hospital I hard a couple of readings in the 200s.

My diabetes was pretty controlled prior to surgery so I got to leave the hospital without my meds. I had to monitor my sugar 4x a day for about 2 weeks to make sure everything was fine. Now I check my blood sugar every morning and it is never over 75.

I was on oral meds and insulin. On doctor's orders I stopped the oral meds the day of surgery, and decreased my insulin dose markedly at that point also. I kept checking my blood sugars several times a day, and the last time I took any insulin was 6 weeks after surgery. Now I check my fasting blood sugar a few times a week, and it has been 110-135. That's not perfect, but at that level I don't need meds so I'll take it!

Best wishes!

I was a type 2 insulin requiring diabetic on an insulin pump pumping U-500 insulin. After surgery I remained on my pump for a few days but started having lows. My Endo told me to stop the pump and disconnect. After doing so my blood sugar was in the 130 to 150 range. He had me start Lantis two shots 15 units twice a day. I still had lows after my dinner meal so I stopped the afternoon dose. Now my blood sugar is in the 90's most of the time unless I do something stupid. If I eat a high carb meal like I did once (crawfish enchiladas) they bumped my blood sugar to 175 for several days. I finally got my blood sugar under control and I just have to be careful about what I eat. I don't know if I will ever get off insulin but one shot a day is much better than the expense of pumping insulin all day long. Good luck on your journey.

My first BS in post op was 299! My body HATES injury or illness. So I was on 9 units. I am a type 2 with insulin also. I was on a cocktail of meds-glipazide, metformin, Lantus, Novalog and Victoza. At my highest-I was on a combo of about 60 units. Right now-only a sliding scale on the insulin. Today I needed 3 units around what would have been lunch time. Not sure if it adding my levoxyl or my lisnopril for the first time in today that bumped me up-they may have a starch filler with them. I've been running 127-159 since Wed. Today it was 179. Could have been the meds, that I added Crystal Light or more active. Who knows. That's why I did this surgery-no matter what I did-the numbers were all over the place.

Good luck-over time I am sure the numbers will start to go into the normal range.

I've been checking my sugars all day! I'm so happy they haven't gone above 127 today and I haven't taken any meds!!!!! I have to call all the docs tomorrow to make appts but so far this is a good sign. I've been diabetic for 9 years and got to a point I was taking 2000'mgs of meteor in daily plus humbling and humalog. I'm only 32 and couldn't imagine my life forever like this. I hope to get rid of all of it. I even had some numbness and tingling in my hands and feet due to my weight and sugar. I want to have children and be healthy which further made me choose this surgery. You are all encouraging me with your stories I thank you for that. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
