process rocky - hernia repair with sleeve. disappointed with progress

@@Sweet Nan

welcome, welcome, welcome to sleeveland!!

sorry you've had a rough start

hernia repair at the same time as sleeve couldn't have helped

you never "ONLY" lose X mount of weight

you loose X amount of weight -great

look at the positive of whatever weight/inches you've lost, not what you haven't lost!!

remember to follow all the rules you learned

any questions -ask!!

read other posts/answers on this board too

drink at least 64+ oz of Water a day

eat Protein first (ie chicken, fish)

plenty of protein

keep track of EVERYTHING you put in your mouth!!!

other rules you learned too

try and stay on track/encouraged, chin up

mental positive attitude is great (with everything in life too)

all of above is easier said than done

but i know you can do

i have faith in you!

btw - i'm being a "peeping" kathy in this group

i had my sleeve when i was turning 58

(snuck over from 60's group!!)

4 years after sleeve

i'm healthier and happier than i ever was!!!

and i look cute as a button too!!! LOL

good luck

kathy

Hello to all my companions in the over 70 age group. I would like to be friends with each of you, but I am notoriously horrible with computer stuff, and I don't know how to go about it. Would appreciate help with this.

Also, having problem with swallowing pills! I never had before, but I had a hiatal hernia repair along with the sleeve. Last night I woke up with my throat burning horribly. A pill had gotten lodged somewhere. Today I got a pill crusher and crushed up all the pills and mixed them with vanilla pudding. (the pudding now tastes awful) Am I doing this right? Any advice would be appreciated.

I am about 35 days post surgery, and have only lost 21 pounds. I don't think I'm doing very well.

Hope to hear from all my new friends in the group. Thanks for letting me talk your ears off.

From Sweet Nan

The hernias, heartburn, and small issues are easy to deal with. You never have to worry about meal planning if you have yogurt, cottage cheese, rotisserie chicken, smoked salmon, tuna, veggies, PB2, Proteins, etc. on hand. I love this simple life after a lifetime of cooking hearty meals.

I'm 75 and had the sleeve surgery, I'm not losing, it's like I never had the surgery, I can eat everything.

I liked your post because of your age.. I dunno if I'd go through with this at 75. But who knows.

As far as your surgery goes when were you sleeved and what is "everything"?

I had the sleeve at 66. The struggle is still real four years later. No matter how little I eat, no matter no more diet soda, bread, carbs or sweets. My husband has restriction, I do not.

I'm 71 and my surgery is scheduled for 6/15/17. I'm disappointed (and scared) reading here that so many older people seem to have trouble losing weight or keeping it off or even losing any of it. Has anyone in this age group had a satisfactory postop experience?

Please don't be discouraged. I got my sleeve at 73 and lost all my excess weight in the first two years. If your health in general is good and you can commit to a few eating and lifestyle changes you will do great. Best wishes.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
