Not wanting to eat

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to see if there are any other friends out there that are/had a hard time eatting after lap-band?? I am just 48 hrs out of surgery but cannot seem to want to eat! Ive tried sipping on chicken broth and just ate alittle yogurt. Is this normal?? Im up walking around just fine, its just a bad gassy feeling like I cant eat and hold it down.. Thanks for your help..

This is common. It's part trauma, part anesthesia, part recovery, and probably a pinch of psychology.

I was banded almost 13 months ago and my appetite has never returned.

Just enjoy that "not wanting to eat" sensation. I had that when I first came out of surgery for a few days.

Once everything started to heal up, that went away pretty fast.

Drink your Water - but don't worry... you can't possibly starve to death in a few days.

:]

I didnt want to put anything in my mouth for the first few days and had to FORCE myslef to drink liquids. And,,I dont care if i EVER taste chicken broth or beef broth again as long as i live,,hahahhahaha

Seriouslyyyyyyyyyyyy,,,i survived on Crystal Lite with Beneprotein in it Maybe try some defac coffee,,unswet ice tea,,sugar free Jello, sugar free popsicles too. Those popsicles really hit the spot with me! All those things were on the list my physician/dietician gave me.

Good luck,,hang in there,,this too shall pass!!!!!!!!!!

Banded 1/29/07

I had my surgery on 3/14, and I feel the exact way. I don't know what to eat and I can't get much in without the fullness feeling & belching.

Dina I would say all is perfectly normal. It is normal for the early days post op to not have much of a appetite. Do not force it,K? Just read up on your nutritional guidelines and be ready for when you get a bit hungry so that you can sip juice or tea or whatever. All is well with you.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
