Stall 1 week post op!

Recommended Posts

I'm 10 days post op and over the last 3 mornings I've lost less than half of a pound total! I lost 17lbs in the first week which was very exciting but now I'm freaking out a little bit the past few days... Has this happened to anyone else?

My guess is if you searched "Stall" you'd get thousands of posts. It probably happens to almost everybody at some time or another. Give it time, you will resume losing as everybody does.

Goodness, you haven't stalled, you've barely started! (I think the dreaded "stall" word must be handed out at WLS seminars, otherwise it's like not a word in the rest of the world's regular vocabulary. Relax, enjoy this gift -- and consider weighing yourself less frequently.

Thanks for the advice! I know I need to relax a little but I have a tendency to over think things. I know I should only weigh myself once a week but my discharge papers from the hospital say to call my doctor if I gain a pound or more in one day so that's why I'm checking so often. After 2 weeks I will get on a once a week schedule! Then I can only drive myself crazy once a week! :D

I also lost 17lbs the first week and stayed near that weight for the next two weeks. My doctor said that I had lost so much the first week (way above the norm) that I couldn't really "trust" that loss and predicted the next weeks would be very slow.

After the third week I have been steadily losing 2-5lbs a week. Don't stress it.

Thank you so much! It's nice to hear from someone with such a similar situation. It makes me feel a lot better!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
