Recommended Posts

I had surgery 2/11 and guess what! 14 lbs up since day of surgery! So tell me Water weight or "search the forum" or whatever, but I am so DAMN angry it should be physically impossible to do this! So much for people who told me to eat less and I would lose weight well NO food FOR 14 DAYS =WEIGHT GAIN. I know nobody wants to hear it but I have no one to talk to so here's my post. I have tears running down my face I am so upset. I am farther into the 300s wtf...I hate this.

I left the hospital 8 lbs heavier than when I went in. It took me over a week to lose it again. It is all the IV fluids they pump into you. It takes a while to get rid of it.

Well, I am sure I wont be the only one to say this, but, you just have to be patient. You're 4 days out from a MAJOR operation. Your body is in complete and total shock and it needs time, just like you will, to adjust to the new changes. Believe me, it will come down, just have to give yourself some time for everything to return to what your new normal will be. Everybody here who is post op has gone through a momentary gain or stall and we all freak a little bit. Just have to take a deep breath, pack the scale away for a little while (trust me, it helps. the scale is a great tool to completely screw your mental health) and just keep on track.

Another way I looked at the water(IV) weight is that at least I'm really hydrated and would prefer that to the problems that come from dehydration.

I understand though, I recall the feeling of looking at that scale and thinking "are you kidding me?"

Stay calm! Nah. Give it a good cry! Kick, scream and curse. This may be the last time the scale betrays you. You will have your vengeance soon enough. I promise. It is physically impossible, so its obviously not real. Your body is panicking cuz you sliced off 3/4 of a major organ. You already know its Water. Its that sh#thead scale. Its trying to sabotage your mental chill! But you have physics on your side. You should spit right in its digital face. (This is the hardest it gets.)

Most liquids weigh in the neighborhood of 8 lbs per gallon. Alot of fluids were put in you in the hospital. I assume you have also been adding liquids since. You have to wake up the bladder and get the fluids exiting as well. (urinate, alot). Turn off the waterworks (the tears kind) and relax. That liquid weight is gonna drop like crazy over the next couple of weeks.

I lost 11 during my 2 week pre op diet. Gained 8 after 2 days in the hospital. Been home 2 days and lost 5 of the 8 I gained in the hospital. I was sleeved on the 11th also. Definitely a roller coaster ride but we all knew this could happen. I won't weigh again until my post op appt to keep from going insane. We just need to hang in there and wait for the sleeve to work for us. And it will work! Stay positive!

ugh...thank you guys so much for talking me down a bit. I am sitting here like, "You've gotta be f-ing kidding me" I threw the scale into the closet and I think I broke it oh well I DON'T CARE...rrrrgh

I know logically it's shock of surgery and Water weight but man, it sucks. Ely, I am right there with you....screw you scale....I HAVE PHYSICS ON MY SIDE, BITCH! LOL

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for not rolling their eyes at another melodramatic newbie...or at least not letting me know you did. :)

I saw your post...glad you are feeling a little better. I'm banded but I had bi-lateral hip replacement surgery in October. When I got on the scale about a month post-op, I was about 12 lbs. up from the weight I was prior to the surgery. My hips were still so swollen that I knew it had to be Water and general Fluid retention. It took about another four weeks or so but the weight came off and now four months out of the surgery, I've lost all of it plus another 15 lbs.

Do you have any idea how much poison goes into your body when you have surgery. The body reacts to protect itself from these invaders esp. your kidneys and liver. it takes a lot of time for that stuff to leave your body. Diluting it with Water is a great help.

You don't need to get mad you need to be patient. It is part of the journey...the beginning. Be glad your system is working to protect itself. That means all is good!

I was told that it is impossible for someone who has had this surgery to not lose weight. You are now geared to lose weight....

Get rid of that scale...It plays with the mind!!!!!!! The only things scales are for are fish! weighing once every 2 weeks is plenty......K

Weight gain after surgery is not such a big deal. It is IV Water. When I left the hospital after a few days, I was up 17 #. I still was down 45 # by the end of the month. It will happen. Just wait for it...

It's like you are holding a few gallons of Water. But ya know, on the inside :) None of it's fat gain. You just had surgery! The surgery will work. The Water weight will go away.

Hi:

Very soon you're going to have a few days of peeing like crazy and the scale will show a reward for all of your efforts. I can remember I gained 9 pounds after my first lapband, then one night I peed like crazy and the scale went down 5 pounds in one day. I think that was my biggest daily loss ever, even though it was just fluids.

Easy to say be patient, but "Be patient!".

Best wishes to you

Sue

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
