I had my lapband surgery last wednesday and there were no problems during the surgery. I am on a soft/puree diet right now. I am always finding myself going to the bathroom with diarrhea since surgery. I am taking pepcid Ac everyday, twice a day but it is not working. What is the problem? How can I fix it?

Thanks

pepcid AC is for acid reflux, not diarrhea...i'd call the surgeon's office and see if it's just a passing thing (no pun intended) or if they'd want you to take an anti-diarrheal (like Ammodium AD)

I'm not a doctor, but maybe back off just a bit on the pepcid? I've heard that an excess can cause diarhea. If it doesn't clear up soon you might wanna see your doctor, but it's probably just your body's way of ironing things out and adjusting.

Nat- Pepcid AC won't help with that problem. I would try some anti- diarrhea medication. Immodium- should work. But I think your body is just tring to deal with the changes. Try the Immodium , if it doesnt help in 1-2 days. Call the doc

If you are not on solids then bm's won't be solid. I was told liquids in, liquids out. Same would go for purees I would think. I know when I get a fill and have to do a day of liquids, then a day of purees and then soft foods then real food, I too have diarrhea. ~Mandy

I also had diarrhea after my surgery but it was because I was drinking a lot of Protein Drinks and some are loaded with sucralose. Every time I eat or drink too much sugar free food I get either diarrhea or cramps. I would try to watch the sugar free drinks and see if maybe they are making you that miserable. I would also call the surgeon if the problem persists. Make sure you are drinking lots of fluids so that you do not become dehidrated.

When you drink liquids only you should probably not have too much of a BM but elimanate the liquid intake through urinating a lot. If you are having diarhrea I belive you either have an infection ( viral or bacterial) or you are sensitive to the sucralose.

Well I would LOVE diarrohea!! I have the opposite problem despite drinking prune juice and having now gotten onto puree veg and weetabix!!

Have resorted to gylcerine suppositories but as they are no longer on sale here, I have bought them on the internet!!!

Wish me luck!

My first week after being banded I had diarrhea. Tomorrow will be two weeks and now I can't go to the bathroom at all. I don't know what to make of it, but I know it will pass!

Hi,

I just wanted to mention that my nutritionalist told me to mix all my juices with Water to thin it out a bit, or I would get diarrhea. Maybe that is what is happening with you?? Try drinking extra Water too...most of us don't drink enough water:nervous :welldoneclap: Take care, Cyndy

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
