Congrats on your date!

I took the basics...but the hospital still supplied most stuff....

  • Deodarant
  • Huggie Baby Wipes ( if you get a catheter you will definitely need these when it comes out)
  • Vaseline ( lips are going to be SO dry from no drinking)
  • Couple of changes of underwear/socks ( but put the hospital socks on over my personal socks when it was time to get out of bed/walk, etc.
  • Cell phone/charger
  • Lotion
  • Travel toothbrush
  • Toothpaste/mouthwash
  • Pair of pajamas and very oversized gown (didn't wear either due to the way I felt and IV's, etc. it was just easier to keep on my hospital gown. When it is time to get up and walk I asked for an extra gown to put on as a robe to cover my "opening" in the back.
  • Hand towels ( to wash my face)
  • Facial cleanser

I think that's about it... my basic items and didn't use some of the stuff because they gave me a few things. Hey...as much as you pay to stay in the hospital... they should give you the world. Again..congrats...best wishes and a speedy recovery ! :)

Bring a pair of slippers so when you walk around the hallways your feet don't get sore. Hospital socks don't provide enough cushioning.

Also when you go for surgery that day they take personal property and lock it up till after the surgery you might have to go to an office with the receipt and request any valuables. They store valuables seperate from your clothes. To avoid this if possible have someone bring your property the next day when you get a room.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
