Yesterday (Day 1-surgery Day) I was banded at 9am, left hospital at 1pm. I was groggy/sleepy with Anesthesia prob until about 6pm. When my eyes were closed, I could still hear what was going on around me. I stayed fully awake from 6-10pm. Sipped Water here and there all day. Maybe 10 oz total? Throat was dry from tube in surgery I suppose. Took pain meds at exactly 4 hrs all day. Also took phenergan for nausea every 6 hrs (just to make sure I didn't get nausea, haven't felt it since recovery room). I have consumed the gas-x strips a lot...those are awesome in aiding the gas pain. I did wake up at exactly 4 hrs all night with discomfort....took my pain pill and had a gas-X strip at the same time, fell back asleep. I did sleep in my bed all night, but the 4 hr pain was like clockwork. Haha. So odd.

Up this morning (day 2) and I get to take a shower today. They used the glue for my incisions. The largest incision is above my belly button, assuming that is where the port is. Husband is the best ever...He has laundry going, lunch for him and our girls cooking...and picking up around the house while I sit here on the couch. Couldn't be more blessed.

Stay tuned and I will add my activities for awhile (until I go back to work in about 10 days) on this thread if anyone wants to follow.

Congratulations -- What a great Valentine! And great loss, too. You are off and running now. So happy for you. Take it easy and have a nice quiet few days healing up.

Thanks! Yes, I am very particular about having foods that taste good, so I am always spicing things up on my own. I used a bay leaf, tarragon, thyme, and rosemary...oh and fresh cracked black pepper in addition to the already mentioned. Mmm mmm good.

I was banded yesterday and feel ok. Same exact situation as scuba chick. Today I have extreme rumbling of my stomach. I am only consuming the Clear Liquids that were identified on my post op plan. Is it normal for continues stomach rumbling and churning?

Well, I only woke up once in night and I went ahead and took pain pill. But when I got up at 8:30 this morning (5hrs later) I feel really pretty good and haven't taken a pain pill yet. Gonna wait it out some. Made me a Protein Shake, sipping it...nutrition guide says consume 8oz over an hour's worth of time. But every single sip, I have air coming up...I hope it's just temporary, it's kind of annoying. Lol

It took me 2 hrs to drink my 8oz Protein Shake. When I took super teeny sips I didn't have the burp feelings anymore. So it took a very long time to get it all in....but I did.

You are so lucky! I can't have Protein Shakes until week 2. I'm starving over here :-(

My tummy won't stop rumbling either! It rumbles so hard that it hurts.

Well after it took 2 hrs to drink it, I ended up taking a pain pill and fell asleep for 2 hrs. I had started feeling discomfort and I am terrified of pain that I don't want to experience...I hadn't had a pain pill since 3am....so noon'ish wasn't bad I thought.

I am awake and feel pretty good. Trying to drink just Water right now for hydration. I was such a guzzler of Water before the band, this sipping is definitely tough for me.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
