need ideas please

Recommended Posts

I need suggestions for my soft food phase.

I started today, had some crab meat, but very little.

I need some tasty ideas please!

I am not getting enough Protein with the shakes because I can barely get a few sips in before I get full.

Help?

I'm not there yet because I am still pre-op but have you tried unflavored Protein Powder such as Unjury? Maybe try adding it to a thinned cream Soup or thinned mashed potatoes (if you want to go that route). I think this is probably going to be the hardest stage for me too. Good Luck!

Egg salad (you can use plain greek yogurt instead of mayo, its not bad).

I made a black bean burger with a tiny side of sweet potato (tolerated that well)

Ground Turkey Chili

Hummus

I am in the same phase. Today, I mixed deviled ham spread with guacamole. It was tasty and did not bother me. I can still only get an ounce or two in at a time.

I actually had some thin cut deli meats today, and a tiny bit of chopped brisket. So yummy and did really well. :-)

I puréed egg salad and chicken salad. I had my hubby buy me a few interesting Soups and I mashed those but you can purée them as well. I made a strawberry blended drink which was great (strawberry light and fit dannon, skim milk and frozen strawberries). eggs and cheese were good too. My little one loves the Ella's organic purées so I bought a few extra for me and I also got no sugar applesauce.

Just a heads up: When you are early on you need to avoid seeds (like strawberry seeds) because they can get stuck in your healing stitched area. Most doctors prohibit seeds for a certain number of months. Just be careful. Also, many sleevers can't tolerate fresh and frozen fruit early on, so folks should check their plans to make sure those foods are OK during puree phase. Apple sauce and cooked fruit is typically OK.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
