Ew...these hiccups and burps are ANNOYING

Recommended Posts

Sleeved the morning of Feb 11th...it went pretty well. My surgeon was AWESOME, he said I followed instructions so well that he was able to remove about 90% of my tummy! I had to stay in the hospital an extra night due to trying to treat an h pylori infection and I had a bad reaction to the antibiotic....

So, I know everyone more or less goes through this but, every. Single. Sip. I. burp. Or I do that painful pre-burp thing, or hiccup. Is this just something until the swelling goes down? I want to make sure I can get enough liquids in.

On the plus side, I have a lot of energy, more than I thought...been shopping with the hubby and kids and everything. We bought Kinect (sensor device for the XBox 360 you can use for dance and exercise games) but I only got through 5 minutes of warm-ups. Maybe I am doing too much, DH thinks so.

PLEASE SAY I WON'T BURP FOREVAH! ll

My burping and preburp pain was horrible a first. I dreaded taking a drink and had to force myself to do it. It will get better. I think mine was better after a few days, but I don't remember it was like I just noticed one day I wasn't burping or hurting anymore. I was full prepared for the gas and pain in my chest cavity, but I was not prepared for how much had would actually be in my stomach.

Thanks for the reply...I got over the gas pretty quickly I was eating those gas-x strips like nobody's business and plus I had the nurse giving me the Rx gas stuff too...plus I walked like crazy in the hospital. They actually had a nursing team looking for me at first they thought I fell down...lol...I walked like every hour and they were eventually like, oh, there she goes again. That gas was no joke and I wanted it over ASAP...if I could only do something about this now...

I was thinking the same thing when I got sleeved. Hiccups SUCKED! But once the swelling goes down and you start to heal, the hiccups subside.

Well, I have gained 14 pounds since DOS so I am really depressed, I know it's early but it feels like this isn't worth anything, I literally eaten NO food for 2 weeks, so that's how you know calories in/calories out is BS...I am so angry and I am going to bed .

Don't let those pounds depress you. It's totally Fluid buildup (in my opinion) and postop swelling. I had over 7 pounds up while in the hospital and now after being home a couple days those are gone plus 2 more. If your nurses were like mine they made sure the IV was always going full steam ahead.

Even now at home I'm getting up several times through the night to tinkle so the fluids work their way out before you know it.

Try not to let it anger you, just think about it as a temporary fact that will soon take care of itself.

That said, it won't hurt to mention it to the docs so they can either confirm it's normal or see what's up.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
