When will the GAS STOP?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved Monday morning. As instructed I walked and walked while i was in the hospital to the point that the nurses asked me if I was trying to get an award because I walked more than any other patient ever had. I was sent home Wednesday afternoon with instructions to keep walking (I finally started passing gas Wednesday morning). It's now Friday afternoon and I'm still SICK with GAS. I am over 400 pounds and know that they probably had to use a bunch of it to blow me up but my gosh man when will it end? I can't drink much or eat because every sip of Water displaces gas and is painful! Any help is appreciated!

walking is going to be one of the best things...check with your dr., you may be able to use gas-x or something to get some relief as well...good luck...it'll be over soon

Ask your doctor if you can use Gas-X strips.

Yes, you do have a lot of surgical gas, which walking is the only thing to help. But you could have intestinal gas, too. I did for almost 2 weeks. GasX strips really helped with that.

Thanks all! I think I have intestinal gas too...it feels like every time I sip Water it displaces gas in my stomach and causes painful burping. I'll try gas ex

It took about a week before I was able to work the gas through. Walking and gas x helps. But I found when my back hurt because of it. My husband would rub my back and it would help pass it through. Hope this helps.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
