quick breakfast ideas to take on the go

Recommended Posts

I need some Breakfast ideas, especially something that has something to chew. My go to its plain Greek yogurt with orange crush powdered drink mix added for some tasty and sweet flavor.

The greek yogurt is a great idea. Try adding 1/2 cup of fresh berries and an ounce of chopped nuts or low sugar/low fat granola. This gives us the Protein, fruit and Fiber combo.

What stage are you in? Soft foods only or can you eat anything?

if you are in past liquids...in the World According to Eggface, she makes mini quiches in a mini cupcake pan... basically you scramble up the eggs and put whatever you want in them and put them in the sprayed mini pan and bake them up... you'll have breakfast all week :)

She offers a lot of recipes as there are on here as well...but, again, depends on what stage you are on now.

So far I have mixed luck with eggs. I can handle scrambled with little pieces of veggies. A friend who also had sleeve surgery found some granola bites by About Time. I was worried about adding fruit to my diet because of the sugar/carbohydrates. I feel like I need some more chewing and Fiber so I'mm not so hungry and maybe the bathroom won't make me so nervous..lol

try this one... scramble an egg (or 2) tear up a slice of cheese and heat in a mug, in microwave, for about 30 seconds, if you can have another slice of cheese, tear it up and again nuke for 20 seconds... the mug keeps it warm ... my sis gave me this idea, and it is another great, "on the go" item, but also something you can sit and enjoy...once you can take vegetables, etc, you can add tomatoes, mushrooms, or whatever you please...me, I like it plain :) give me CHEESY eggs all day long!!!!

I mix whole grain, high Protein oatmeal and plain Greek yogurt in a small coffee mug the night before. By morning, the oatmeal has soaked up moisture and is ready to eat. I stir in puréed fruit (peaches, blueberries, whatever) and take it with me. The oatmeal I use has sunflower seeds and millet, so it makes the yogurt "chewable". I also have Premier Protein bars in my truck just in case. I like the "omelet in a cup" idea, too. You could also try a ham and egg roll up...take a deli slice of ham (or turkey,) and roll up scrambled eggs, cheese, etc.

what oatmeal do you use? I'd like to try that.. I used to do the granola in my yogurt (waaaaay before McDonalds did :)...) for the longest...but that has a lot of sugars... thanks, Kindle

It's called O.S.M. And made at The Bunnery restaurant in Jackson, WY. I live just across the border in Idaho, so it available in our local grocery stores. I don't know how far they distribute, but they do have an online store you could order from....

I always try to keep a Protein Bar handy for emergencies. Do you like to cook? Ive started making my own Protein Bars and love them, and have started playing around with Protein muffins using recipes from Pinterest. They're actually pretty good.

For the muffins I went to Pinterest. Theres a good lemon blueberry made with almond flour, and this weekend I'm going to try a banana one made with oats and oat flour. Plus Protein Powder. My granola bars I've kinda made up my own recipe for a fruit and granola bar, using things I liked on other sites I googled. I'm at work but this weekend I'll try to add some of my recipes on here. Also have a smoothie that can be made ahead of time but stays thick.

How about a homemade smoothie? That's really the only way I vamp up on my Protein intake, almost all in 1 sitting (though it takes me a while to finish it).

Pure Protein vanilla Creme shake

1 scoop of Pure Protein vanilla powder

1 container Dannon Oikos yogurt

1/2 banana

cinnamon

Splenda

Taste great & gives you loads of protein first thing in the morning!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
