Super afraid of a leak! No symptoms, just paranoid of the risk.

Recommended Posts

I'm day 5 post op and paranoid about the leak issues. My doc says if it was going to happen it happens within two days if surgery. I have no symptoms just scared straight about the possibility. I'm actually having slight anxiety attacks over the fear. Help guys.. Just looking for encouragement to get through this nervous post op stage.

Though it can happen, the chances are slim. Relax and focus on your recovery. Welcome to the club and good luck!

Yes, these days it's very, very uncommon.... they do leak tests after they do the surgery, etc... relax... sleep, sip, surrender to your sleeve ;)

Being one of those people who had a leak...i suggest that you keep doing what your surgeon tells you to do....It will all work out. but your right..Having a leak is a nightmare.

Don't worry about it until it happens okay!

you will be just fine.

They do plenty of tests.

Relax, take a Valium and call it a day.

I am the same way. Two days post op I was about to have a panic attack over the fear of a leak (which never happened, btw). A very good friend who is a OBGYN and who went through the surgery helped me get over it. The chances of a leak are less than 5 percent (2 percent if your surgeon is very experienced). Chances of something going wrong during a C-Section, for example, are much higher. Need I remind you how many safe deliveries happen everyday? Breathe. Really. Stay in tune with your body in order to be safe, but please do not over worry. You can make yourself physically sick with worry, and that is one problem you can control and avoid. Also, DO NOT read about sleeve complications on the internet for the next two weeks. Focus on the success stories only. If you are still feeling anxious, talk to your doctor about taking Xanax or another medication to help you relax. Stay strong, we are here for you. ((hugs))

Thanks for the kind word and true heart to heart about a leak. My surgeon is very very experienced so I'd put him in the less than 2% range. I'm 1 week post op now and feeling much better about the leak risk. I was panicked about a leak happening. I literally had panic attacks over it my first two days at home. I'm happy to say in healing well and continue to focus on positive thoughts about this.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
