When I am in the gym working out I think to myself: "Building twisted steel and sex appeal!"

Other mantras include: "Attitude is everything" "This is my individual journey and I am finding my way" "I am growing and changing." "I make appropriate food choices based on my goals." "I am finding my own recovery."

Great topic!!!

It is indeed in my signature and has been (and continues to be) an inspiration to me - "Persistence, along with absolute belief, can never be defeated." Some other favorites:

  • "You're not ready until you're convinced."
  • "It is of no use saying 'We're doing the best we can', success means doing what is necessary."
  • "Change your thoughts and you change your world."
  • "Think from the end."
  • "Perfection is not a criteria for success."
  • "It's not just about the weight you lose. It's about the life you gain."
  • "Hold the vision and trust the process."

You guys have a great day!

This isn't exactly a mantra, but at 62 I know that I want my hubby and I to grow old together (ok really old!) and if I don't change my eating and exercise habits, my pre existing conditions will cut my life short. My hubby is diabetic and he needs to increase his exercise too. That is my motivation. In a nutshell,

USE IT OR LOSE IT!

Mine is tomorrow is a new day. It helps me to remember that I am not a failure. And that I am human and do make mistakes and that tomorrow I can start all over again.

'It's not a sprint, it's a marathon'. In the short term there are successes both large and small but the battle doesn't end with them. I think the finish line- of the 'marathon' is the end of my life, not reaching a weight goal. I have to make the lifestyle changes I've already made permanent so I can live a long, healthy, happier, good quality life. I need to keep on going, not slow down or stop because I met my goal and risk it all. The point is to maintain a healthy weight and a healthy lifestyle to the end. To live. :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
