I haven't been banded yet, but I have had gallbladder surgery. My cousin was banded, and had gallbladder surgery months later. She told me that the gallbladder surgery was much worse than the lap band surgery. So I'm assuming it would probably make your healing time a little longer, one advantage is, maybe they can use some of the same incision spots, so you won't have as many scars. I will have 9 after getting banded! I was VERY sore after my gb surgery.

I had my gall bladder surgery in November 06. He did not want to do the two surgeries together, but some do.

My gall bladder surgery went much better than the banding. No pain, no gas, was active from day one!

He used different sites for each surgery.

I had my surgery on March 12th, came home, no problems. The night that I came home had excutiating pain in my upper back and abdomen and went back to the emergency room.

Needless to say, I was in the hospital for 9 days total with lots of tests for my gallbladder. It seems that I had a numerous amuont of stones lined up in my bile duct and when I did the testing for my gallbladder, it took mine over 2 hours to open up.

The morning I was slotted to go back to the OR to remove my gallbladder, the stones had started to pass and, thank God, I did not have to be cut up again.

Anyway, back to normal after a week and feeling really great.

I wish you luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
