Sleeve size? new/post op

Recommended Posts

I am 8 days post op and am wondering if my sleeve is possibly too big and what others have experienced. I can drink a 10 to 12 ounce shake with out difficulty, it ths normal? A friend of mine that had VSG was sipping out of medicence cups for couple weeks and could not drink nearly like I can.

Other than that, I'm doing remarkable, no pain or weakness, no nausea or vomiting. Thanks in advance for replys.

I was more or less the same. My nut told me liquid basically runs right through your little stomach. Its when you start eating solid foods that you will see the change in the amount you can intake.

I had no problem with the liquids either. I can drink quite a bit. However, now that I am on mushy foods, I can really tell my stomach is small.

A shake is still thicker than Water its like Soup its doesn’t flick right through.
Soup actually sits in the stomach a lot longer and takes a long time to digest even if it is a liquid so that much shake that soon out I would say its safe to say you do have a bigger sleeve.

I had no problems with the liquid shakes either. It's when you get to solids that you'll find that you can't take in as much. My surgeon says Water canny stretch your pouch. :)

What size bougie did your surgeon use? Mine used a 38 French. Even if yours is bigger, there isn't a huge difference. Like the others have said, you'll notice restriction a lot more once you get to solids.

Hi,

How fast you can drink liquids the weeks after surgery is more about how your body heals than the size of the sleeve.

Some people have less swelling and can drink more early out. Most people have more swelling and are stuck sipping slowly to get liquids in till the swelling goes down.

Don't worry that you can drink more as long as your doctor says that is OK. Once you start eating more solid foods, you'll find out what your restriction is.

I had the exact same worry as you.

I'm 12 days post-op and didn't have a single problem either. Gosh did we get lucky!

I can drink a 12oz shake no problem, pudding (w Protein added) goes down so easily (in a really scary way).

This morning I experimented with some steel cut oats and let me tell you....restriction!

For the OP to say 'you have a bigger sleeve' is just wrong.

Go by forums members experiences, not an armchair diagnosis.

dens on how often, why. If you drank or ate too much or too fast, it's pretty normal. If you are vomiting every day, the frequency is increasing, or you can't get the recommended fluids and food, call your dad.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
