When does the back ache stop?

Recommended Posts

I have began full solids this week. I was told by my doctor I am not eating enough, so I have started to put a few more groceries down into my stomach. I get the worse back & neck pain after eating. I go for a walk, put a heating pad on my back.

When will this ever end? Did anybody experience this too? :(

You may be over eating. Usually post op if you are allowed foods you will experience pain if you eat too much. Try not to eat to fast or too much no more then a half cup for now.

Thanks Cheryl

My clinic is telling me I need to eat a min of 1000 calories /day. I upped my lunch calories today(because I was only eating around 600), then the pain came.

breakfast: 1 egg omlett with mushrooms, green peppers, and a slice of 1gram fat bacon/ham

Lunch: leftovers from the night before (I cook extra so I have lunch the next day). consisting of 3 oz of fish, or 2oz of chicken plus 1/4cup of veggies

Dinner:2 oz of chicken or 4oz of fish. 1/4c of veggies and 1/4c of starchy veggie

Snack: 1/4c of yogurt with fresh berries 1/4c

Today: I upped my intake as per my dieticians request to get to 1000 calories( I don't think I got there yet). 2 eggs breakfast; 2 oz chicken & 1/4 cup hummus and 3 small crackers for lunch. 4 oz of pork tenderloin & veggies for dinner. This is the most I have eaten since Jan 8 (pre op liquid diet)

Hmm, could it be gas build up from my intestines and stomach-working it's way upward.

Gas-X brings a small amount of relief

Each surgeon seems to have different rules of how much you should eat in terms of quantity & calories. According to the rules of my surgeon, you are eating wonderfully. I'm surprised that isn't adding up to 1000 calories though.

For the time being, to reach the 1000 calories, maybe you should add some higher calorie foods. My Breakfast smoothie can go as high as 380 calories (35-40 g protein) a day. Believe me, in time, you won't have trouble eating 1000 calories. Maybe a glass of milk or something like that. Though it's liquid, it still has good Protein content & nutritional value.

Many bandsters at your stage of the game complain of hunger...

With you being so new post op I think that is too much food. You should go for two ounces of meat instead for now until you can slowly work your way up to 4 ounces. Your body is telling you no that is where the pain is coming from. I would not worry about the calories right now it will come.

I got nada. I never experienced any pain or gas so I'm worthless here. The foods you eat shouldn't cause back aches but sometimes veggies cause some gas problems, or so I've read.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
