normal not to be overly nervous?

Recommended Posts

My surgery date is one week from today February 21. I am not very nervous about the surgery procedure but more nervous about life after. I feel in my heart I am making the right decision but I will really wont know until it's done. I am turning 40 this year and have tried every fad diet out there. I always lose weight but just gain it back again. I am a very active person and it's taking a toll on my body. My wife and PCP are supporting me but in the back of my head I still feel like should have been able to lose the weight without surgery. These forums and others successes have kept me motivated and pushed me to het healthy. I have seen very few people that have regretted their decision and I don't think I will either.

I was ready. Months of classes, pre op tests, this forum, and research and I was ready. I had cleaned my house, stocked up on the correct food items and was looking forward to embracing the new me! No nerves at all. I felt like I could teach a class I was so prepared. Zero regrets! Never ever...

Hey readytobehealthy! I am scheduled for 2/25 and I too feel alittle shamed that I could not lose and keep it off ......that I had to resort to surgery......but I know this is the way to a better life, for me. I have battled weight gain since high school and it has taken its toll on me.....lose 10, gain 15, lose 5, gain 8, etc etc....exercise, swim, walk.....this is the right decision for me now. I wish I had done this 10 years sooner, because I feel like I have l lost 10 years of living, sucumbing to existence only. Good luck!

I have surgery in the 20th in Mexico with Dr. Q at Santa Fe Medical Clinic. Thanks to this forum and a support group on FB, I have no fear! I am SO STOKED!!! I only learned of the VGS about a month ago, as soon as I learned about it I said yes! I feel so lucky not to have pursued the lap band! Dr.Q won't even do them anymore. He is so busy doing revisions. The sleeve seems to be so effective!

I am ready!!! And hungry! Guess it's Soup time.

I'm also on the 19th, and have been far too excited about it all to be nervous. Maybe Tuesday night, or Wednesday am, but not yet.

My doctor even asked me why I wasn't nervous or anything. I like to take things a day at a time. No use in getting worked up over something I can't control. I know I wanted the surgery, and I know I want to be skinny. Whatever I have to do in between then, I do.

Not sounding cocky, but that's pretty much how I handle everything. And as a newly-sleeved as of the 7th, I can honestly say thay there is nothing to be worried about! Enjoy!

LOVE your attitude ! Not too nervous also. .just looking forward til summer when I can fit into cute summer outfits...vain? Oh well..looking forward to feeling good about the way I look.

I was beyond excited the first time around--I was supposed to be sleeved in July. The abnormal EKG dashed my hopes, so I had a good 4 month long food funeral until I was finally sleeved in Dec. Best decision I ever made! You will rock this! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
