Love your Lapband Why?

Recommended Posts

Hi. I have been reading your posts for a couple of months now.

A lot of people use the expression"Love my lapband" "Would do it again."

I am trying to decide if this is for me.

Can you tell me what you love about your lapband?

I love my band not only because of the weight loss but also because before banding I was taking 4 pills for diabetese and 3 for high blood pressure. Today I only take 1 for diabetese and 1 for high blood pressure. I feel like me and my band are saving my life!!!

I love my band because it does not let me over eat like I used to. Dont get me wrong I still struggle with my food choices. But now when I do bad it is like 4 Cookies bad instead of a whole bag of chocolate chip cookies. It is painful if I over do it. So I have learned not to. It is awesome!!

I love my band because it's given me hope back that I can be a healthy weight. I love that I can eat a reasonable amount and feel done.

Even in the beginning, the band made me slow down when eating. This alone helped me lose weight.

Then, the better my restriction got, the less I would eat, and the easier it would be to move away from the table after a small portion.

Now, I have pretty good restriction - and I find that while the band does not FORCE me to step away - it makes it a lot easier for my rational mind to overcome my instinctive urge to stuff myself.

I find that if I have a firm control over my mind and my will, I CAN be happy with that half a cup of food - and I am really not hungry five minutes later.

I still CAN eat more - but I am no longer COMPELLED to eat more.

Basically, the lap band gives me control over my body's urges to eat.

My mind - well, that's the part I still have to work on - but each time I push the plate away with food still on it is a little victory for me.

I really LOVE my band - because it gives me the freedom to do the head-work without that gnawing, driving, burning hunger that I used to feel.

I love the HOPE that I have, now. I hadn't had hope in a very long time. Now, I don't just dream of being smaller... I know - KNOW - that I can do it with time and lots of head-work.

Good luck in your decision.

I love the fact that I have restriction and can only consume 1k calories a day. I love the fact that I am not longer hungry. I love the fact that my relationship with food has changed tremendously. I no longer live to eat, I eat to live. Good luck with your decision. Its the best thing I have ever done.

If it weren't for my lapband, I'd be actively gaining the weight I just lost.

I could lose the weight, just couldn't keep it off for any length of time.

My band will help me keep off what I worked so hard to lose.

My band has made me a happier, healthier, lighter person. Obviously, I love being lighter, but I love being happier even more. I would do it again in a heartbeat. My only regret is the band was not available when I was much younger and could have been happier with me longer.

I've lost 35 pounds in about 2 months. When I lose 5 more I'll be under 300 for the first time in a very long time. And the thing I like is that so far this has not involved any sort of "will power." I eat anything I want. I just happen to like meat and vegetables more than Pasta and cake. So, I eat whatever I want any time. It's just that I can only eat about 1/3 of what I used to eat, and then I'm full. Some days my carb and calorie intake may be a little high. But other days it's pretty low. I just find that I don't need to worry about it.

Now, I know that not everyone has had this same experience, and others have to work more at watching what they eat. I've just been lucky with that so far. I may find that I, like others, plateau after a while with my weight loss, and then I'll need to get more focused on food choices and exercise. But so far, it's been a breeze.

I love my band because it helped me learn how to eat just a meal. I used to eat the whole pan or pot of food and I am now learning what a single serving is, never got that in the past.

My band has also helped me learn the difference between head hunger and body hunger. There is a time when I want to eat verses need to eat and my band has taught me, through trial and error, when those times occurr. I could not have lost and kept off my wieght to date without the lap band.

Do your research, talk to people and learn all you can. Good luck in your decision.

Because I feel totally changed. I dont feel like somehow miraculously I have lost more weight than ever before but am now hanging by a thread to make sure it doesnt go back on. I know its lost for good. Losing it was hard but maintaining it is really really easy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
